Commitment to Diversity

The Information School believes that diversity, in its many forms, contributes to the intellectual and social enrichment of the school. We welcome applicants who have varied cultural, educational and socioeconomic backgrounds.

We create an environment that fosters appreciation, mutual respect and engagement among and between members of the iSchool, UW community and beyond, with special attention to the needs of vulnerable populations and minoritized and marginalized groups.

We envision a university in which all students, faculty and staff participate fully and meaningfully in campus life without being subjected to discrimination, bias or microaggressions. We do not condone any expressions of racism, sexism, homophobia or transphobia, or any other instances of bias and discrimination against marginalized individuals or groups.

There are three paths to admission to the Informatics program:

  • Current UW students
  • Transfer students
  • Direct admission for incoming first-year students

Application Deadline

The Informatics program has two admissions cycles per year:

  • The application to start the program in autumn has a deadline of April 5 each year.
  • The application to start the program in winter has a deadline of  Oct. 5 each year.
  • If the application deadline falls on a weekend, the deadline to apply will be the following Monday at 5 p.m.

Direct-to-major admission

Direct admission gives high school students with a strong interest in studying Informatics the chance to apply to the iSchool while filling out their UW application. Simply selecting “Informatics” as the first-choice major on the UW application will ensure automatic consideration for direct admission. Direct admission is for autumn quarter only.
