Admissions, academic and career advising

iSchool staff are here to help provide you with quality support throughout your iSchool experience as you explore, develop and pursue opportunities that align with your life and career goals. Advising hours and scheduling instructions are listed below for graduate admissions, academic and career advisors. Most programs host appointments online or in-person.

Consult an academic advisor for topics such as:

  • Academic guidance such as degree planning, course registration and suggestions, Capstone and internships.
  • Policies, procedures and forms at the UW, Graduate School, iSchool or degree program level
  • Approval of transfer credits, out-of-school courses, etc.
  • Navigating other UW offices/services (i.e., Financial Aid, International Programs, etc.)

Consult a career advisor for topics such as:

  • Internship and career opportunities, employer contact info and advice
  • Resume and cover letter reviews
  • Preparing for job interviews: mock interviews, day-of interview tips, salary negotiation, etc.

Bachelor of Science in Informatics

Advising Support

Informatics advising is available to current Informatics majors, Informatics minors, and prospective students, with different advising options available to each group.

  • Quick Questions Drop-In Advising is available throughout the academic year for brief questions and advising needs that can be addressed in a short conversation with peer advisers or program staff advisers.
    • Monday–Thursday, 11 a.m.-2 p.m
      • Meet with a peer advisor or staff advisor virtually or in person in MGH 420. No appointment is needed.
      • Use the Quick Questions Check-In Form to join the queue.
      • Temporary changes or cancellations will be messaged through Informatics Resource Site.
      • Quick Questions is not held during holidays or breaks between quarters.
  • 1:1 Advising Appointments are available throughout the academic year for questions that require more time with a program staff adviser, including degree planning, course selection, academic progress, and academic policies.
    • Schedule a 1:1 appointment directly through the iSchool Student Portal. 
    • Appointment availability is displayed beginning 24 hours from the time you view the calendar.

Career advisors

Mental Health and Well-being Support

Information School students have access to mental health support from a mental health professional. The counselor can help you find referrals to short- and long-term therapy, provide support through a variety of mental health issues, both virtually and in-person, and give information about other resources. *Advisors and other Student Services staff at the iSchool are "Campus Security Authorities" under the Clery Act and must report some criminal actions and hate-related crimes to UWPD when disclosed. Issues involving citizenship or immigration status are not reported.
