Residential & Online
Degree requirements for the Online MLIS and Residential MLIS programs are the same, with students required to complete 63 quarter credits. All core courses and most electives are offered via both modes, so it is possible to complete coursework entirely online. Both residential and online courses are taught by iSchool faculty and guest lecturers who bring wisdom from the profession and are supported by our highly capable Learning Technologies Team. Applicants are welcome to apply as either a residential or online student, but once they are admitted to a program mode, they must stay in that mode for the duration of their program. The diploma will read the same regardless of delivery mode: “Master of Library and Information Science.” Learn more about our MLIS curriculum.

Campus resources | All UW students (residential or online) have access to campus resources (UW libraries, disability services, mental health support, student employment, athletic facilities, etc.) — though some campus resources cannot be delivered remotely. | |

Residential and online modes share the same tuition rates, subject to change at the start of each academic year for both new and continuing students.
