How to achieve automatic preventive control to protect users’ private information?

Facing the growing need for cloud computing system protection to prevent financial loss and private information breaches, many companies are manually writing policies to fight against attacks. However, such procedures are repeated and slow. With support from Deloitte, this project created sample codes that could prevent such fatiguing and tedious work by automating the whole implementation process. More specifically, it built a sample code pipeline for cloud computing system policies with Amazon Web Services(AWS), Rego and AWS Cloud Development Kit (CDK).

Husky SLAM: An In-Depth Azure Security Analysis

Microsoft supports over a billion users whether it be with a product or a service. Maintaining information confidentiality is a top priority along with data integrity. By conducting research and analysis, we can take the necessary steps to ensure those priorities are met. We have developed an all-encompassing web page to act as a one-stop-shop for our two main solutions, an in-depth security analysis report translating our findings into a clear story and an interactive classification search in order to quickly research failures, find out why they occur, and obtain recommendations on remediation and prevention measures.

Identifying and Preserving Community History: Archiving the UW Sephardic Studies Digital Collection

During my Capstone project, I prepared archival assets in the Sephardic Studies Digital Collection to become publicly available on UW's Special Collections website. Preparation included assigning item-level metadata to over one hundred digitized accessions of Sephardic community history materials. I implemented metadata standards set by the Sephardic Studies Program in collaboration with UW Libraries, which leaned on Dublin Core, RDA, and local standards to make UW Special Collections’ first collection with non-English materials of mixed media discoverable. This project laid the foundation for publishing this singular collection of specifically Sephardic archival material, challenging dominant narratives of North American Jewish life.

Illuminating the Material History of the Book

Locating a concise material history of the book can be challenging due to the breadth of materials available. University of Washington Libraries Special Collections Rare Books and Book Arts curatorial area wanted a better way to display the vast items in their collections, while also providing information to people interested in the field. In response, we created an online interactive exhibit along with a physical exhibit that depicts and describes materials, tools, and techniques used in Western Europe and the United States through the 15th to 19th century. This provides an entry point for researchers through terminology and examples.

Improving member engagement of a non-profit organization (Cascade Bicycle Club) through website redesign

Cascade Bicycle Club suffers from a disorganized website, thus burdening user experience and reducing revenue/donations. This website redesign project includes three aspects. First, creating functional requirements. Second, conducting an analysis of CMS platforms and third party plugins that are compatible with Salesforce; our recommended CMS platform is Drupal 9 and an Events and Membership Management solution from Advanced Communities, a Salesforce boutique consultancy. Third, redesigning the information architecture to improve navigation experience for users. This website redesign project aims to optimize user experience while suggesting the best CMS platform that serves its functionalities and reduces management costs.

Indigenous Authors, Indigenous Language, and Pacific Northwest Libraries

For those whose primary language isn’t English, finding books in one’s own culture can be difficult. In our project, we want to connect Indigenous people who speak minoritized languages with public library books in their native tongue. We envision an application built in collaboration with regional public libraries to encode less common languages or translated books in a way easily discoverable. Our target audience is indigenous people seeking to discover more books in their native language. However, we also consider public library systems as another stakeholder in our application, because they will facilitate the upload of data into our application.

Interaction Design & Children Designer's Toolkit

For designers, academic research papers are often hard to access and apply in practice, due to academic jargon and a lack of actionable guidelines. Our goal is to bridge the research-practice gap to promote the creation of research-driven designs. The IDC (Interaction Design & Children) Toolkit website gives designers easy access to evidence-based and theoretically-driven findings to inform their design and business decisions around children’s products. The toolkit also aims to help researchers better translate research findings into actionable design guidelines through a step-by-step submission form.

Jasper: Helping UW Students Trade Used Goods

At the end of each academic year a large number of household goods are thrown away by university students. However, most of these items are still usable. Many students struggle to find affordable ways to buy furniture, household goods and clothing. For students wishing to buy these goods secondhand, platforms like Facebook Marketplace and Craigslist create significant challenges in the areas of safety and accessibility. To solve these challenges we created Jasper, a trading platform for UW students to buy and sell goods in a convenient, affordable, safe and sustainable fashion.
