Preparing to Apply

We encourage you to take time to thoroughly explore the UW Information School and the MSIM program before completing your application. To prepare the best application possible:

  • You should be familiar with the vision, mission and values of the Information School and the MSIM program.
  • You should have a general understanding of the academic design of the MSIM program, its curriculum and specializations.

Please be sure to use this foundational knowledge as the basis for responding to the prompts on the application.

The MSIM program has multiple deadlines throughout the year. Before applying, you will need to decide if you would like to be an online or residential student and if the Early-Career, Early-Career Accelerated or Mid-Career degree track is the best fit for you.

Our admissions advisors can help you select the best fit for your needs. Schedule an appointment with them today.

Application Requirements

Applicants to the MSIM program must meet the following basic requirements:

  • Applicants must have a bachelor’s degree or equivalent from a regionally accredited U.S. institution, in any field, by the time MSIM courses begin. You may apply before the degree is awarded.
  • Non-native English speakers must fulfill the English language proficiency requirements. Refer to the Application Materials page for details.
  • The UW Graduate School has a minimum GPA requirement of 3.0. Any applicant with a GPA below 3.0 is welcome to apply to the MSIM program. You will need to demonstrate professional achievements, analytical and intellectual maturity, and overall readiness for graduate education through your application.
  • Mid-Career MSIM applicants must demonstrate at least five years of full-time, professional work experience post-undergraduate degree. Early-Career and Early-Career Accelerated applicants are not required to show work experience.
