Assistant Teaching Professor, Information Management & Information Systems

The University of Washington Information School is accepting applications for a full-time faculty position at the rank of Assistant Teaching Professor; the anticipated start date for this position is September 1, 2026.

This position in Information Management/Information Systems will demonstrate excellence in teaching and leadership with a focus on enterprise information systems, including: evaluating the strategic value of information management systems and emerging technologies; designing and managing enterprise information systems; developing data and information governance strategies; and addressing sociotechnical issues related to implementing and managing information systems in organizations.

This position will be expected to teach the design, development, implementation, and management of information technology for the good of people, organizations, and society. The successful applicant will be expected to (1) be an engaged teacher and mentor, (2) foster an inclusive, respectful, and welcoming community in the context of teaching information systems topics, and (3) support the service needs of the school, through committee participation and shared leadership.

This position will specialize in one or more of the following domains:

●    Enterprise Information Systems and Technology Strategy

●       Enterprise Systems Architecture

●       Data Management and Systems

●       Enterprise Information Governance, Security and Risk Management

This position will be expected to: 

●        Teach and lead curriculum development in information management topics in our graduate and undergraduate programs. Faculty are eligible to teach across all programs, but often have programs of focus.

●        Teach 6 classes per 9-month academic year.

●        Perform service that furthers the mission of the Information School and the University of Washington more broadly.

●        Support the University of Washington’s commitment to fostering an inclusive, respectful, and welcoming community for all students.

●        Engage with the University of Washington Information School’s strategic commitments to one or more of the following areas: 

o   Promote equity in health and well-being

o   Encourage environmental sustainability and resilience

o   Foster a more informed, just, and equitable democratic society

Professorial teaching-track faculty in the Information School have an annual service period of nine months, September 16 through June 15.  Teaching-track positions are ineligible for tenure.  The anticipated start date for this position is September 1, 2026.

The base salary for this position will be $11,000 to $13,000 per month, commensurate with experience and qualifications, or as mandated by a U.S. Department of Labor prevailing wage determination.                                                                      

Qualifications

Applicants must minimally have:

  • A master’s degree (or foreign equivalent) from a discipline that practices Information Systems Management, including but not limited to social and behavioral sciences, information systems, computer science and engineering, and information and library sciences.
  • Five years of combined experience in teaching and/or professional practice in enterprise information systems or related fields (for example: consulting, information systems strategy, enterprise information systems, enterprise data and information Systems, information governance, systems integration, and software development) with demonstrated leadership experience.
