Associate Professors Jochen Scholl and Hazel Taylor, and Ph.D. student Jordan Eschler, authored research papers nominated for best paper at the 47th Annual Hawaii International Conference on System Sciences (HICSS).
iSchool faculty, students and alumni participate at HICSS to exchange ideas, share research results and learn about the latest development activities. It is one of the few academic conferences addressing multiple disciplines including computer science, computer engineering, and information systems.
Participants from the iSchool at this year's conference included:
• Jochen Scholl and co-authors Akemi Takeoka Chatfield and Uuf Brajawidagda’s paper #Sandy Tweets: Citizens' Co-Production of Time-Critical Information during an Unfolding Catastrophe was nominated for best paper in the Electronic Government track
• Jordan Eschler and Hazel Taylor’s paper with Shrikant Palkar entitled Transforming Practice Using Theoretical Framing to Improve Organizational Processes was nominated for best paper in the Knowledge Systems track and was presented in a session entitled Knowledge Management for Innovation, Agility, and Complexity Management
• Jevin West and co-authors’ paper Theory Identity: A Machine-Learning Approach was nominated for best paper in the Organizational Systems and Technology track and was presented in a session entitled Theories in IS Research
• Jeff Helmsley and Josef Eckert presented their paper Examining the role of “Place” in Twitter Networks through the Lens of Contentious Politics in a session entitled The Humanized Web: Networks, Crowds, and their Output
• Marc Schmalz (MSIM alum), Aimee Finn (MSIM alum), and Hazel Taylor presented their paper Risk Management in Video Game Development Projects in a session on IT and Project Management
• Jochen Scholl chaired the E-Government Track
• Bob Mason ran a ½-day workshop entitled Research on Social Media
• Karine Nahon chaired the Digital and Media track
