AI Potential with Service Requests and Incidents

Within the City of Seattle, the IT Department resolves service requests and incidents through service/help desk or the Service Hub system. Given the complexity of the data generated from the system, it's challenging for IT staff to extract actionable insights to expedite the resolution of stalled requests. This project aims to transform organizational management embedded with AI techniques. By implementing Llama 2 with the LangChain framework and running open-source large language models locally, we developed a chatbot (EVAN9000) to optimize operational efficiency while ensuring data security. Extensive experiments and evaluations have validated its effectiveness for promising enterprise-level use cases.

Alliance of Angels: Optimizing Information Sharing for Angel Investors

The Alliance of Angels (AoA) is an angel investor group that provides funding and guidance to emerging startups. While email notifications and website updates are utilized to inform members about meetings and events, there are challenges in securing the attendance of investors and managing RSVPs. In response to this problem, we integrated a calendar into the AoA website for a streamlined way to find events and submit RSVPs efficiently. Additionally, to maximize attendance and engagement, we incorporated dedicated sections highlighting the startup companies that are presenting at each meeting.

In the lives of others, Bearable compared to other task management applications tackle feelings of overwhelmingness by showing one task at a time and integrates multiple different API’s (Application programming interface) such as Google Calendar and Spotify to minimize the need of swapping to different tabs. Bearable intends to boost productivity while minimizing distractions.

Collecting Hope for Grievers

When grieving it can be difficult to find the time and energy to find resources on grief. The Grievers Library has an EZ Reads section thats purpose is to provide easily accessible quick reads on many types of grief. The goal of our project was to find excerpts for underrepresented categories in EZ Reads. We hope that through this project we can help those going through the grieving process find resources more easily. Grief is something that everyone will experience at least once in their lifetime. It’s inescapable and it’s important to create access to resources that can help.

Confederated Tribes of the Colville Reservation Community Mobile Application

The Indigenous residents of the Colville Reservation confront a growing digital divide, hindering centralized information dissemination. While a Facebook group and email reach the reservation’s 9,000+ residents, residents express dissatisfaction with the current decentralized system. Our project tackles this divide by developing a user-friendly mobile application which serves as a centralized platform for reservation-wide resources and announcements, including connecting residents with internet accessibility programs and community engagement features. This project seeks to empower the Colville Tribes through improved communication and community engagement.

Digital Literacy and Equity

The Tri-Cities community has a growing need to address the digital literacy gap. With over 50% of Hispanic households without a desktop or laptop, it was important for us to create a product that could help individuals obtain the knowledge needed to build digital literacy programs. To achieve this, we partnered with Yekaterina Yefimova, a Ph.D. candidate at the iSchool, to develop a site with an interactive map that displays local infrastructures, a data insights page, and a sustainable resource page. By implementing these features, we aim to contribute to the addition of digital literacy programs in the Tri-Cities.
