Jaime Snyder was awarded $7,500 by the Group Health Foundation for a presentation about the process, challenges, successes, and key learnings related to her engagement with communities on health equity issues. This was Group Health Foundation’s inaugural Request for Proposals titled, Lessons Learned from Engaging with Communities.

Anna Lauren Hoffmann presented at the first-ever Data Justice conference convened by the Data Justice Lab at Cardiff University in Cardiff, Wales. Her talk “Toward a Conception of Data Violence: Data Justice Beyond Distributions” was part of a broader panel on data and theories of justice.
Miranda Belarde-Lewis presented at the Native American and Indigenous Studies Association Annual Meeting. The meeting was hosted by the American Indian Studies Center at University of California, Los Angeles. She participated in the panel titled, "Past, Present, Future: International Indigenous Curatorial Practices."
Michael Freeman attended openvisconf in Paris. He presented the React for D3 Users workshop, which focused on writing reusable visualization software using the D3.js library. All workshop materials are available online for use. He also summarized his reflections on conference discussions on medium.com.
On May 29th to 31st, 2018 the Value Sensitive Design Research Lab and colleagues will be organizing a workshop on “Long(er)-Term Design Thinking” on the UW campus for 28 participants from around the world. Distinguished conversations and presentations will be held with Stuart Candy, Keith Green, Ann Light, Bonnie Nardi, and Joseph Nkurunziza. The workshop is funded in part by US National Science Foundation and the UW Tech Policy Lab. Workshop organizers are: Batya Friedman, William Odom, and Daisy Yoo with PhD assistants Stephanie Ballard and Nick Logler.
