Start by researching organizations in specific areas of information science of interest to you, such as data science, user experience or artificial intelligence. You might also search for scholarships in the area of management, which may include business intelligence and consulting.

Information School Scholarships
Merit Scholarships
All residential MSIM applicants, and online applicants who apply by the round 1 and 2 deadlines, are automatically considered for a limited number of Information School merit-based scholarships. Scholarship awardees are notified within a week of receiving their offer of admission.
Scholarships range from covering a partial quarter to a full-year of tuition depending on modality and part or full-time status. Awards average approximately $8,000.
Endowed and Term Scholarships
The Information School has endowed funds for which residential students can apply for scholarships to support tuition payment in their second year in the MSIM program. These funds come from Information School partners including corporations and private donors.
The scholarship application process occurs during winter quarter each year.
Student Employment
The Information School hires residential and online students for hourly and salaried student positions at the Information School. Students can also explore and apply for student positions in other UW programs/departments:
- Student employment positions at the Information School
- Additional UW employment opportunities
- UW Graduate School financial support resources for graduate students
While some funding and work opportunities are available, we always encourage applicants to plan to finance their entire education.
Conference Travel Funding
The Information School has funding available to defray the costs for students presenting at professional conferences, participating in case competitions or contributing to a research project that requires travel. These funds help cover registration fees, travel, room and board and other expenses associated with attending a conference. Funding is limited and is intended to help off-set the costs of students participating in these types of activities. These funds are only available for currently enrolled students, and are requested through your program academic advisor. You can find further information in the MSIM Handbook & Resource Center.
Students should also check with professional organizations for conference funding opportunities. These organizations often offer scholarships for students to attend conferences. Announcements received by the Information School for these funds are sent to the program listservs.
Additional Scholarships
MSIM students are eligible for dozens of scholarships from national and regional organizations and businesses. Deadlines vary and details may change, so please consult each scholarship’s website for more information.
