18 iSchool students win UW Libraries scholarships

Eighteen Information School students are among the 48 recipients of this year’s UW Libraries Student Employee Scholarship.

The recipients will each receive $1,000 through the scholarship, which is funded from a variety of sources including individual donors, the Friends of the UW Libraries, and 14 named scholarship endowments.

One student, Shachi Sonar, is from the Master of Science in Information Management program. The remaining iSchool recipients come from the Master of Library and Information Science program: Erin Andreassi, Allyson Butzke, Olivia Duong, Mei’lani Eyre, Truc Ho, Eve Kausch, Stella Haynes Kiehn, Lyneea Kmail, Kelsey Kurfurst, Jacob Lackner, Andrew Le, Lucy Zhejia Li, Hayley Park, Sydney K. Powell, Shelby Shipley, Melanie M. Smith and Cali Vance.

“The UW iSchool congratulates all of the students who have won the UW Libraries Student Employee Scholarships,” said Michelle H. Martin, the iSchool’s Beverly Cleary Professor for Children and Youth Services and chair of the MLIS program. “We are grateful to the libraries for giving so many iSchool students this vital experience that is instrumental in their being prepared for careers in librarianship and in other LIS fields.”

The students will be celebrated in an online reception on March 3, 2022. The scholarship recipients will deliver a short speech and a few recipients will read from their winning essays.
