Sept. 22, 11:30 a.m.-2 p.m.: IDEAS Affinity Group iWelcome

The IDEAS Affinity Group iWelcome Lunch & Social connects incoming and current iSchool BIPOC and international undergraduate and graduate students as well as students from other historically excluded groups. Students meet and mingle across programs, cohorts and modes in order to share stories and experiences, socialize and build community together.

An essential part of developing and sustaining a community of belonging is creating authentic pathways to connect with one another in meaningful and powerful ways. We invite you to connect with others, as well as meet your program chairs; program coordinators; and program, IDEAS and career advisors. Leaders and members of iSchool student orgs are looking forward to welcoming you to the iSchool. Find voice, find friends, find future by connecting with your student orgs.

We invite activists, advocates, allies, academics and adventurers from all backgrounds — ALL are welcome to join us, and lunch is provided! Get involved early and make a difference — change lives!

Museology Orientation

Day 1: Sept. 19, 10 a.m.-3 p.m.
Day 2: Sept. 20, 10 a.m.-3 p.m.

All incoming Museology students are expected to attend the Sept. 19 and 20 orientation sessions. In addition to getting to know each other and building community as a cohort, these sessions will cover critical information on UW-, iSchool- and Museology-specific policies and procedures, expectations, and resources. Museology students should consult the pre-orientation Canvas page for further details and email uwmuse@uw.edu with questions.

MLIS New Student Orientation, Day 1

Sept. 20, 9 a.m.- 3:30 p.m.

This two-day orientation event for all program modes will feature multiple sessions and opportunities to connect. We highly encourage attending orientation in-person for a chance to meet your classmates and instructors. Sessions during the first day of orientation include student and faculty panels, lunch, opportunities to get to know one another, and faculty-led workshops to prepare you for the MLIS program.

MLIS New Student Orientation, Day 2

Sept. 21, 11 a.m.- 3:30 p.m.

Sessions during the second day of orientation include all-iSchool events, including the iCommunity Breakfast and Kickoff, as well as small group rotations at various locations on campus.

*In Person, On Campus* | Various locations, starting at Husky Union Building (HUB), South Ballroom | Students should reach out to mlis@uw.edu if they anticipate their attendance changing.

MLIS New Student Orientation (Virtual)

Sept. 23, 10 a.m.- 3 p.m.

This one-day orientation will be online and is for students (regardless of program mode) who are unable to attend the in-person orientation days. Sessions include student and faculty panels, opportunities to get to know one another, and faculty-led workshops to prepare you for the MLIS program.

Master of Science in Information Management (MSIM)

MSIM Early-Career / Early-Career Accelerated New Student Orientation

Day 1: Sept. 19, 9 a.m.-4:30 p.m.
Day 2: Sept. 20, 9 a.m.-3 p.m.

The two day-orientation for the EC/ECA students will provide a multitude of sessions and learning opportunities for our incoming students. This is a required orientation for all incoming students. Over the two days, we will cover topics such as what makes the MSIM program; degree and curriculum overview; student and alumni panels; and skills workshops. There will be ample opportunities to meet and get to know the cohort.

MSIM Mid-Career New Student Orientation

Sept. 23, 9 a.m.-1 p.m.

Similar to the two-day orientation, this single-day orientation for our incoming MC students will have a variety of topics covered and is required. During this orientation, we will be covering curriculum, degree planning, who and what makes up the MSIM program, and we will provide more community-building opportunities.

Ph.D. in Information Science

Ph.D. New Student Orientation

Sept. 21, 10:30 a.m.-4:15 p.m.

This one-day orientation will start with the iCommunity Breakfast & Kickoff and then break off for a Ph.D. orientation. Sessions will include a welcome from the chair, opportunities to get to know one another, an intro with the communications team, and the mandatory HR orientation. Students will end the day with an event held by the Doctoral Student Association to meet fellow iSchool Ph.D.s.
