Martez Mott has terrific award news!
- He was awarded an $18,000 Microsoft Research Dissertation Grant. Martez is among the inaugural group of doctoral students to receive this grant. Read more on the Microsoft Research Blog in the article titled, Dissertation Grant Winners Announced.
- He was also awarded the UW GO-MAP Dissertation Fellowship, a one-year fellowship to support minority graduate students in the final years of their doctoral studies. Congratulations, Martez!
Jason Yip has lots of exciting news to share:
- Along with Chris Coward of TASCHA, he helped facilitate the workshop at the Next Library conference in Aarhus, Denmark titled, Even kids can do it: making online learning work for your communities.
- He participated on a panel at Interaction Design and Children 2017 discussing the recent release of his book titled, Participatory Design for Learning.
- Along with Jin Ha Lee, Alexis Hiniker, Kiley Sobel, Arpita Bhattacharya, and Julie Kientz, he presented their year-long research findings on location-based augmented reality games to John Hanke, the founder and CEO of Niantic Labs (creators of Pokemon GO and Ingress) and John’s team members.
- Finally, Consumer Reports released an interview with Jason about How to Play Video Games With Your Kids.
Saba Kawas had a paper acceptance and participated in the Interaction Design and Children 2017 workshop. Congratulations, Saba!
- Along with, Sarah Chase, Katie Davis and Joshua Lawler, her paper titled, Co-Engagement with the Natural World through an Interactive Mobile Application was accepted.
- She participated in the workshop titled, Playing together: The importance of joint engagement in the design of technology.
Norah Abokhodair, along with Adam Hodges and Sarah Vieweg, had an article published in Anthropology News titled, Adapting Social Media to Arabian Gulf Norms. The article provides a great foundation for her dissertation, which she’ll defend next Friday, July 14th, 11:00 a.m. in Allen Auditorium.
