Biography
Professor Williams serves as a Guest Faculty Member at the University of Washington Information School and holds a Bachelor of Business Administration with a minor in Computer Science focusing on Information Technology from Tennessee State University. He also possesses a Master’s degree in Information Sciences and Management from Syracuse University iSchool, a Master’s degree in Systems Engineering from Arizona State University, and a Master’s Certification in Agile Development from the University of Washington. Additionally, Professor Williams is certified as a Lean Six Sigma Greenbelt, Certified SCRUM Master and Product Owner, and has Advanced Studies in Information Security, Information Systems, and Telecommunications Management.Relocating to the Seattle area a decade ago, Professor Williams joined Microsoft where he has contributed significantly in Cybersecurity and Data Privacy. Throughout his tenure at Microsoft, he has held key positions such as Technical Lead for Secure Admin Services and Workstations, GDPR V-Team member for Data Privacy, Director of Compliance for Minecraft (Mojang Studios), and Subject Matter Expert in Data Privacy. Presently, he is a Data Privacy Technical Expert within Microsoft Security, focusing on safeguarding customer data. Professor Williams brings over 25 years of extensive experience in Information Technology, having worked for Maximus Inc. as a Software Applications Developer, Lockheed Martin Corp. as an IT Business Planner, Software Engineer, Project Engineer, and General Dynamics as a Senior Systems Engineer specializing in Tactical Airspace Control for Combat. His career also includes roles at the US Army Threat Systems Management Office at Redstone Arsenal as a Senior Cyber Systems Engineer and Certified Ethical Hacker, and at the Internal Revenue Service as Lead Information Technology Specialist for the Affordable Care Act and Lead Systems Infrastructure Engineer for improving fraud detection and tax return processing efficiency. Drawing from his vast industry experience, Professor Williams educates students on the real-world implications of cybersecurity and data privacy through technology. He is committed to mentoring, coaching, and imparting his knowledge to ensure student success in the technology sector, and he is highly enthusiastic about teaching at the University of Washington.
