Biography
Jacob Hagelberg is Guest Faculty in the Masters of Science in Information Science at the University of Washington Information School. He is a scholar and consultant specializing in trust within socio-technical systems and the governance of emerging technologies. His research addresses tech hype and panic, US-China tech relations, the AI regulatory landscape, and misinformation narratives and policy prescriptions. Jacob earned his PhD in Cultural Studies from the University of California, Davis, with emphases in Science and Technology Studies and Critical Theory. He is working on his first book project, Techlash Media: Credit, Credibility, and Crisis, which engages the cultural politics of late techno-capitalism and its discontents. Jacob has designed orginal, interdisciplinary courses ranging from the Media Theory and Black Mirror to Keywords of the Global Information Age to Technology Ethics. Jacob currently consults independently and with Domelabs AI, where he helps healthcare institutions adopt and govern AI responsibly.
