The current landscape of uncertainty, unpredictability and unease has reached those of us in the once impermeable tech field. We at the iSchool want our alumni to know that we stand with you — especially if the cuts have directly impacted you.

As companies look to cut costs in the face of softening demand and rising inflation, the result is usually layoffs. Please let us be a support to you if this worst-case scenario becomes a reality. We would like to offer a list of resources that are available to iSchool alumni:

• The University of Washington Career & Internship Center provides complimentary access to Handshake, a platform connecting individuals with a host of employers. The center can advise students who have graduated within the past three years. The career site also furnishes many DIY tutorials for all alumni.
• The iSchool alumni website has a career-focused page with a wealth of professional resources, including our LinkedIn network. You may share opportunities and connect with other iSchoolers who may endorse your skills and experience within this group.
• If you are not sure where to start your pursuit, you may also send an email directly to iCareers@uw.edu with specific questions. For the time being, iSchool Career Services is providing services to all iSchool alumni, regardless of graduation year.

We would be remiss if we did not take a moment to recognize the potential for life-changing consequences the layoffs could have on our international alumni holding employment-based visas. 

During a challenging time, we can all use encouragement. It is important to remember that even the toughest job market isn’t impossible to conquer with a network of support. We are here for you and hope to be added strength for you.
