Ph.D. funding
All admitted Ph.D. students are offered a baseline funding package of 12 quarters (to be used within 6 years). The financial support package typically includes a tuition waiver, monthly stipend and health insurance for the student and any dependents. Students must be enrolled full-time (10 credits) and work 50%-time as a teaching assistant (TA) or research assistant (RA). Students have the option of accepting the funding offer; those students who do so must meet the criteria outlined in the funding offer letter. The funding package will be forthcoming from our Human Resources team.
Visit the Ph.D. Awards & Fellowships page to view a list of recent fellowships and awards won by Ph.D. students.
Academic planning
The Ph.D. program is generally completed in 5 to 6 years. The standard degree plan consists of taking coursework full-time for two years, followed by a general exam, typically done during the third year in the program. Once Ph.D. candidacy is established, the remaining time in the program (2-3 years), is spent working on the dissertation proposal and dissertation defense. Learn more about Ph.D. degree planning.
Information about registration and which classes to take in autumn will be provided in the online New Student Canvas Site.
