Please note that the information provided in this section is applicable to MSIM and MLIS students only.
Tuition
The MLIS and MSIM programs are self-sustaining/fee-based programs. Students are charged tuition on a per-credit basis. In addition to tuition, students also pay quarterly fees, including a $55 non-refundable registration fee. Tuition rates for the 2024-25 school year will be posted at the following sites when available. General tuition rates are announced in April or May.
MLIS and MSIM programs have unique tuition rates, so please refer to the above links when planning your finances.
Please note: The MLIS and MSIM programs do not qualify for the State Employee Tuition Exemption program.
Paying for School
Financial Aid
U.S. citizens and permanent residents are encouraged to fill out the FAFSA in order to be eligible for loans. The WASFA is available for DREAMers in the state of Washington.
Financial aid awards (loan packages) for Master's students may cover tuition, fees, books and supplies, room and board, transportation, and miscellaneous fees. Financial aid is automatically assessed and awarded at 10 credits for full-time programs.
Part-time Master's students are limited to tuition only. Financial aid is automatically assessed and awarded at 5 credits per quarter for part-time programs. Additional aid can be requested if/when additional credits are taken in a particular quarter.
Applicants who submitted the FAFSA and requested funding should hear from the UW Financial Aid Office regarding their financial aid package before the reply deadline. Learn more about the Financial Aid award process on the UW's page about applying for Financial Aid. If you filled out the FAFSA and have not received your loan package before the reply deadline, please contact our office for an extension. Please direct all questions about the FAFSA, WASFA, funding packages and loans to the UW Financial Aid Office.
Scholarships
All applicants are automatically considered for a limited number of iSchool merit-based scholarships awarded by the admissions committee. iSchool scholarship selections are generally made within two weeks of when admissions decisions are conveyed, and award recipients will be contacted directly.
A list of scholarships from external organizations is available on our website. Students are also encouraged to seek out additional scholarship and funding opportunities on their own.
Student Employment
The iSchool hires a limited number of students as graduate assistants (GAs), teaching assistants (TAs) and hourly student positions, posted on the iSchool website's jobs page. The hiring processes for these positions are managed by the iSchool HR department. Please direct questions about individual positions to ihrhelp@uw.edu.
