Better ABLE: Analysis & guidance for the Idaho Commission for Libraries’ Alternative Basic Library Education program

Our project is helping the Idaho Commission for Libraries (ICFL) modernize their existing free training resource: Alternative Basic Library Education (ABLE). While a successful program, it needs significant revision, consolidation, and updating to continue being a relevant LIS resource. We are supplying ICFL with the following documents to aid them: comprehensive content audit, user personas, and taxonomy terms/concepts to guide future content creation. The goal is to help ICFL continue providing free quality, versatile LIS resources while increasing the reach of the program to the underserved and the underrepresented in the field of library and information sciences.

Easy Park & Ride

The Seattle Squeeze makes its transportation system strained. Although people are recommended to utilize Park and Ride facilities, they get frustrated when they do not know parking availability until they arrive. Our team EveREST addresses this information problem through providing real-time parking availability information. We gathered data from 686 users and designed a user-centered data pipeline. We collected real-time data through sensors, processed streaming data through cloud database, and visualized dynamic data through web application. Our solution not only helps users have equitable access to parking information, but also helps transit agencies make more effective decisions to solve Seattle traffic challenges.

Improving Information Architecture for Starbucks Beverage Recipe Cards

As Starbucks increases its drink lineup, with currently over 90 beverages, beverage recipe cards have become increasingly important learning and reference materials. We worked with Starbucks stakeholders and baristas to explore how beverage recipe cards are used across physical and digital platforms. We created information architecture and standardization recommendations, metadata, content models, and dictionaries to steer recipe card sharing and development. By standardizing the content and organization of recipe cards, we improve the barista learning experience and move towards making beverage recipe and preparation information interoperable data resources to empower other business activities, such as supply ordering and efficiency studies.

Information Architecture & Web Migration for ACRL ESS

The new European Studies Section (ESS) is an integration of the Slavic & Eastern European Section (SEES) and the Western European Section (WESS) of the Association of College & Research Libraries (ACRL - a division of the American Library Association). ESS will be hosted on a new Wordpress site giving a chance for an intentional design based on user research and content analysis. This site is serving academics and professionals in European affairs and history, while also supporting study and research. This project serves to meet this purpose by creating a website that is inclusive of the WESS and SEES.

Information Framework Development for The Nature Conservancy - Oregon Office

The Oregon Chapter of The Nature Conservancy has an overwhelming amount of data. There are few standards for data management and lack of best practices. This has led to data being haphazardly stored across both cloud storage and local storage. Our solution to standardize data practices and encourage the use of cloud storage will improve data flow and organization. The goal is to improve how data is shared throughout the chapter, and cut down on the time it takes for members to find what they’re looking for, thereby increasing productivity chapter-wide.

Microsoft Encounter

Microsoft Learn was designed to be a student-facing platform to help develop technical skills but the experience was targeted towards professionals. Our team collaborated with university students to re-architect the site and build a platform that was more enticing to their skill level. By customizing the platform to better fit their needs, our solution, Microsoft Encounter, alleviates the major pain points of the Learn platform and delivers all the key features students look for in a technical learning site. In turn, this will lead to brand loyalty and turn the students of today into their customers of tomorrow.

Nantucket Biodiversity Digital Repository

Since 2005, Nantucket Biodiversity Initiative has sponsored over 70 different research projects, but the reports and datasets from these projects are not easily available. We have designed a workflow to curate, label, and upload files to a searchable digital repository, and have built a documentation website to house the workflow and process documents. This supports NBI in becoming an open science leader among small science nonprofits, streamlines NBI grant reporting, ensures that researcher reports and data can be cited, and opens the possibility of research funded by NBI contributing to larger scientific studies and new knowledge creation.

Organizing SharePoint: Improving User Experience and Search Navigation on the West Pierce Fire & Rescue SharePoint Page

The personnel at West Pierce Fire and Rescue rely on SharePoint for their centralized information storage and sharing platform. This project sought to analyzing the current website content, identify users’ satisfaction with the current site, and incorporate user feedback to help improve user experience and searching capabilities on the site. A written report to the department included a summary of the research findings, a topical overview of updated files, user-friendly wireframes, and a moving forward document highlighting additional recommendations to help improve the overall design and information sharing opportunities on the SharePoint site.

PUSHSPRING Marketplace Search

Our marketplace search recommender system is a web app that users can use to explore the apps related to a persona or a given mobile app based on PushSpring's local user data rather than average result such as the ones Google gives. Our system was implemented with both CNN and NLP to maximize diversity and relevancy in recommendations. Combining benefits from both content-based and user-based recommendation models, our model produces valuable insights that can't be found elsewhere.

Remote Stroke Rehabilitation on VR

Stroke survivors need constant and effective rehabilitation to restore their life to normal, but not everyone can afford the time and money to visit doctors or care centers. Building a VR rehabilitation product, we bring the medical professionals to patients at home, monitoring their rehabilitation data, connecting doctors and patients online, and providing dynamic advice to speed up their rehabilitation progress. The product makes their rehab experience cheaper and more efficient with AI monitored exercises. With our project, our sponsor Kaspect can work on combining clinical side experience with patient side and begin experimenting with this new experience
