UX Redesign and Engagement Strategy for Fortnite Creative Documentation Site

The Fortnite Creative Documentation site provides users with information to build their own custom islands and interactive game experiences. However, the existing site was spun up so quickly that the site design needed to be improved to meet primary audience needs. For this project, we generated both the short-term and long-term suggestions for the Epic Games to optimize their website through providing high-fidelity prototypes and a UX content analysis. Users will benefit from best practices in search and navigation in our design, and Epic will have a more accessible website with matched branding and higher user engagement.

Awaken: An Educational Game that Inspires Early-stage Designers of Inclusive Design Thinking

Inclusive design is a methodology of making design choices that increases usability for the full range of diversity. Many intro-level designers are not aware of the definition, practice of, and need for inclusive design. The resulting products have bad user experiences for impaired users. To address this problem, we have designed an interactive game with challenges that reflect difficulties impaired users face when dealing with products. Through Awaken, we aim to raise the awareness of inclusive design, build empathy and understanding toward impairments through real-world stories, and ultimately influence more designers to make products that are usable for everyone.

Behance FAQ Redesign

Behance is an Adobe product where designers share their creative work. Behance’s help desk is set up on Zendesk, due to which the user interface of the FAQ page lacked homogeneity with the Behance website. The current page lacked intuitiveness, making it difficult for customers to find answers, leading to a bad user experience. In this project, we redesigned the FAQ module by rearranging information into concise categories using Behance’s theme, providing guided navigation, and kickstart with featured articles. This project will ensure customer satisfaction with a better User experience at this self-service portal and is expected to reduce customer support tickets.

buddy: a gamified approach to habit building

Mental health problems are prevalent among college students and can have negative implications on productivity and social relationships. To address this, we sought to design a product that would help college students achieve a routine of healthier habits to improve their well-being. Habits influence health and quality of life, and gamification promotes motivation and engagement — combining the two, we built buddy. Our platform, buddy, lets users set personalized goals, practice self-reflection, and earn rewards as they track their progress over time. We hope buddy helps people develop better routines, and in turn, improve their overall well-being.

Croftery: Online community marketplace for cottage food

In Washington state, there is a significant number of in-home cottage bakers who want to sell food to consumers, and a significant number of consumers who would like to buy those products. However, current solutions for connecting the two do not comply with state law and make it difficult for cottage bakers to scale. Croftery is a dedicated place for sellers and buyers to make legal transactions with guaranteed food safety and form a tight-knit community. Sellers will gain more customers and revenue, and lovers of good food have a place to visit when they want to have homemade goods.

Digital Accessibility & Open Library

Ensuring access to digital content for everyone is one of the core principles of Open Library & their parent organization, the Internet Archive. To ensure that this is true for all patrons, regardless of ability, this capstone project focused on testing Open Library’s code-base for digital accessibility. A test set of twenty pages was created for a WCAG 2.1 audit. Testing and remediation were done with the help of Open Library’s network of Open-Source contributors. Accessibility policies and documentation were drafted to ensure compliance continues in the future.

FanCentral: A social media platform for sports fans that incentivizes interaction

Currently, there is no centralized social media platform for sports fans, or a way that teams can directly encourage fans to interact with their social media posts to further engagement. FanCentral is a social media platform for teams to share social media posts from various platforms to their fans. Teams can also reward fans for interacting with posts, incentivizing engagement. Fans are able to view detailed information and post history for their favorite teams and earn rewards by supporting their favorite teams.

FindMyTeam

It can be a pain to find a good group to work with in your classes. That’s why we created FindMyTeam. This application is a platform that will enable iSchool students to join and create teams with their peers, preview student profiles, and find team recommendations based on skills and interests. This can be entirely student-driven, but we want to encourage instructors to use this in their classes. Instructor users will be able to add students to their classes and form teams as well. Ideally, FindMyTeam will help students and instructors form teams that work well for each individual.

GetMDPP: Reducing Type 2 Diabetes Risk with Web Matching Platform

The prevalence of type 2 diabetes in the US has been growing despite it being preventable through lifestyle changes. Unclear communication between healthcare providers and diabetes prevention programs makes it challenging for people at risk to seek and receive the help they deserve. Building off our sponsor’s alpha of a web-based matching application, we met an epidemiologist, an economist, healthcare providers, and prior participants of the Medicare’s Diabetes Prevention Program (MDPP) to make the web application more accessible. GetMDPP provides a way for at-risk individuals to be informed about and connect to MDPP and change their lives for the better.
