Recital Repertoire Planning Tool

As part of their degree requirements, Music Performance majors perform solo recitals. Voice majors have often relied on repertoire recommendations from their voice professors, or have drawn from a narrow range of well-known composers. This project seeks to connect singers to more unique song repertoire via techniques inspired by the “read alike” and Nancy Pearl’s “four doorways.” The “read alike” concept was adapted and placed within a repertoire selection framework as a set of search strategies. The framework allows students to find music that speaks to them, is varied and diverse, and promotes a more research-minded approach to performing.

Staff-Portal: A redesigned tool suite for Jefferson-Madison Regional Library

I created a prototype for a redesigned suite of library staff tools to replace a defunct web portal for the Jefferson-Madison Regional Library. I evaluated what functionalities the library's staff most needed in a tool suite and focused on the two primary functionalities of list-making and material withdrawals. This tool suite was designed using interviews and observational research to be approachable, helpful, and easy to learn. In addition, I focused on clear documentation and resources to lay the groundwork for technical implementation of the program in the future.

Tadashi - The Ultimate Team Experience

Tadashi aims to give in-class teams positive working experiences when completing their projects. After conducting interviews, we identified three core concepts behind what makes a great team: communication, accountability, and reflection. We implemented those three concepts into a centralized platform with four key features: a teambase, messaging, reflection board, and task management with rolling leadership. Our platform makes a difference because teamwork is more than just completing tasks, it is about learning and applying good foundations that students can take into their careers. Tadashi aims to reduce negative experiences because we know the magic that good teams can create.

The Olympic Escape Room

The Olympic Escape Room is an online game designed in partnership with University of Washington iSchool researchers. It serves as an additional game for the Loki’s Loop Project to teach high school students about misinformation in an engaging and fun format. Like a physical escape room, there is a game host, you can play individually or with a group, and there is a limited amount of time to solve the puzzles. Throughout the gaming experience, students learn different tactics to identify misinformation and become critical information consumers.

UCHI: Make a house your home

First-time homeownership is abundant in resources on purchasing a home, but resources about caring for one’s home lack in comparison. Additionally, these resources lack organization and information applicable to individual needs. As a result, two-thirds of first-time American homeowners ignore home maintenance until parts of their home begin to malfunction, leading to unexpected expenses. To mitigate homebuyer’s regret caused by being unprepared for home maintenance, UCHI organizes maintenance tasks relevant to each home. With UCHI’s recommendations and reminders to stay up-to-date with home maintenance tasks, first-time homeowners are able to protect their investments and better care for their homes.

Urbanity - A webpage created to voice the effects of gentrification

Gentrification has affected many community members and long-time residents in the Central District area more specifically the Yesler neighborhoods. Many families were forced to move out as rent started to increase and buildings started getting torn apart which destroyed its rich history.
