  4. Graduation

Steps to Graduate

Before you are able to graduate, you are required to complete the following procedures. If you have any questions concerning this process, please contact Student Services. Learn about the Convocation ceremony.

Master’s Degree Request

You must submit your master's degree request online with The UW Graduate School.  This can be done starting on the first day of the quarter in which you intend to graduate and no later than the last day of the quarter. We strongly recommend doing this as early in the quarter as possible. You can audit your degree to confirm you have met all of the degree requirements.

Additional Information for MLIS Graduating Students

Washington State Librarian Certification

This certification is administered by the Washington State Library in Olympia and is granted to individuals who have earned a Master's degree from an ALA-accredited program in library and information science. The certification application is available online and includes an application fee.

UW Diploma

Three or four months after you graduate your diploma will be sent to the permanent address on record in the MyUW website at the time of graduation. The name on the diploma will appear as it does on the MyUW website. Visit the UW Graduation, Commencement, and Diplomas website for more information.

Beta Phi Mu Honor Society

Annually the iSchool nominates MLIS graduates to the national Beta Phi Mu Honor Society. Nominees must have a minimum cumulative GPA of a 3.75 and be in the top 25 percent of the graduating class.  You will be notified in the fall following your graduation if you are nominated.

UW Computing Services

Reference UW IT Connect for information on accessing email and other computing services after graduation, and contact them with specific questions.
