Jasper: Helping UW Students Trade Used Goods

At the end of each academic year a large number of household goods are thrown away by university students. However, most of these items are still usable. Many students struggle to find affordable ways to buy furniture, household goods and clothing. For students wishing to buy these goods secondhand, platforms like Facebook Marketplace and Craigslist create significant challenges in the areas of safety and accessibility. To solve these challenges we created Jasper, a trading platform for UW students to buy and sell goods in a convenient, affordable, safe and sustainable fashion.

Kenworth Zero-Emissions Commercial Truck Dashboard

We developed a ZEV Dashboard for Kenworth using Tableau to help the decision-making process of the Kenworth Project Planning team. In this way, they will gain more insights into the conversion to ZEVs in response to the rise of CO2 emissions. In addition, to better adapt to future ZEV credit requirements set by the government, Kenworth can take advantage of the ZEV credit calculator and set up plans for future sales of ZEVs regarding climate change.

MasterView: A User-Centered Customer Management Platform for Masterworks

Masterworks is a full-service marketing and fundraising agency that helps faith-based non-profits achieve their missions through growth strategies focused on quality of engagement with their audiences. Masterworks clients don’t fully understand the effectiveness of digital marketing, which affects the company’s ability to retain clients in the future. Our MasterView Tool enables Masterworks’ clients to see the value of investing in digital marketing. It achieves this goal by showing them the specific ways that a person’s engagement with ads leads to financial donations. With this, Masterworks can validate that their clients' investments are delivering quantifiable results.

Merck-MeSH Prototype Dictionary

Within the realm of veterinary information, there are two major free resources: The Merck Veterinary Manual, and PubMed. Unfortunately, as PubMed, and by extension its controlled vocabulary, MeSH, are intended for human medical data, it is difficult for most users to make the jump between these two resources. This project is intended to bridge these two resources, however, was of mixed success, as the level of equivalency was so low that using MeSH at all was rarely more effective than just using a well-structured search. However, giving the students structure to their search aided the effectiveness of their searches immensely.

PNW Native Collection

PNW Native Collection continues the Native Voices 2021 Capstone project. Our project expanded upon the map and website designed by Adylenne Ascencio and Rachel Kresl by adding more resources. The goal was to collect both books and films written and created by Indigenous creators of the Pacific Northwest into a database that can be shared with both Native and non-Native communities. We added 46 new items, updated the name of the project, and thought of organizations we could share this resource with. This resource will help others easily find resources that celebrate Indigenous creators, and it also promotes land acknowledgment.

Records of Past Advice Knowledge Base

Team designed and set up a knowledge base and database of past legal advice into MicroSoft SharePoint, with appropriate indexing, organization and taxonomy. This way, Department of Licensing staff can more readily find, understand and follow legal advice, so the agency can become more protective of privacy and spend less time searching for records.

Skillet Analytics: Information Management System for Restaurant Data

Skillet Analytics is a new way for Skillet Restaurant Group to analyze business KPIs and track progress among the restaurants. Small businesses lack access to technology to utilize data-driven decision-making. Our team sought to make the powerful tool of data available to Skillet so that they can measure and improve restaurant performance. This project introduces live connection between a database server and KPI dashboard to make retrieving and accessing data seamlessly for employees who work in operations and beyond. The project is implemented using data analysis, database creation, and population and data visualization.

Software Deployment Tracker for Microsoft Azure

Microsoft Azure is cloud-native and runs across multiple regions, making tracking its metadata complex and challenging. The current dashboard involves ad-hoc SQL data queries which is inefficient and inaccessible to non-technical users. Additionally, the dashboard doesn’t provide useful visualizations for analysis. To address these issues, we developed the Software Deployment Tracker which is designed for all team members, from project managers to engineers. Our solution empowers the Microsoft Azure team to effectively monitor global deployments by querying and visualizing deployment data instantly without writing any code.

Tut Talks

The Tutankhamun Centenary: 1922 – 2022 website hosts a collection of Howard Carter’s personal documents and articles from the Times of London describing the discovery of Tutankhamun’s tomb. The wealth of information related here had been out of public view for the past 100 years, so this project sought to make these documents accessible to both academics and the curious public. We learned how to use digital tools and platforms to create an online archive; we learned how to document, preserve, and present historical materials; we created metadata and a keyword list; and we integrated our archive into an interactive timeline.

Weeding the Anytime Library Digital Collection

This project supported the Washington State Library with weeding the Anytime Library, an online library with over 66,000 titles. The library supports a consortium of public and tribal libraries in Washington State. A literature review was conducted to determine best practice for weeding online libraries. The findings discovered that weeding an online library is not the same as weeding a physical library. As a result, new guidelines were developed and used in the project. The team also developed an evaluation tool and process guide. Only part of the collection was evaluated due to the large size of the collection.
