Sourcing additional information on private equity transactions

The world of private equity (PE), already formidable in size, is expected to see continued rapid growth in the coming years. Global PE assets under management are forecast to reach US$5.8 trillion by 2025. PitchBook tasked us with identifying additional sources of private-market info to supplement their robust information-architecture. Specifically, PitchBook requested publicly available, granular information pertaining to the investments made by an individual fund of an investor, known as deal-to-fund tagging.

Bayou Playhouse Inventory

Bayou Playhouse, a small theater located in Lockport, Louisiana, holds a collection of costumes and props. However, there was no system in place to keep track of the current collection or any newly obtained items. This is an issue when putting together productions, as the organization often either wastes time looking for an item that may not be there or wastes money repurchasing an item that was already in the collection. To solve this problem, I designed a Microsoft Access database to create an inventory system. In the coming months, I will finish cataloging every item to complete the database.

Behance Recommendation Engine

Behance is a social media platform owned by Adobe that allows artists to develop and share their artwork with other users. With more than 10 million users searching for inspiration, personalized recommendations play a pivotal role in the overall UX. The current recommendation algorithm at Behance requires substantial user activity to generate recommendations and surfaces artwork with higher likes more often. To make these recommendations more fine-tuned, we developed an algorithm using Cypher, that analyzes the activity of all related users & provides weight to project themes instead of likes. Our algorithm also reduced the recommendation generation time by 50%.

C-Bike: Bike Locker Management

Cascade Bicycle Club handles 220 of King County Metro’s leased bike locker units and manages over 160 customers who rent these eco-friendly and affordable lockers. Cascade relied heavily on manual transactional processes to facilitate their bike locker leasing program. Our project, C-Bike, has successfully eased the process for this non-profit by creating a secure, data-integrable customer management database for locker administrators, and a clear, concise frontend locker rental webpage for customer inquiries. Through C-Bike, customers and administrators can have swift and more secure interactions, thus ensuring that these resources are quickly accessible to those who need them.

Coeur d’Alene School District Yearbook Access

For many years, local libraries have been unable to field requests for access to both of Coeur d’Alene’s high schools' yearbooks. The solution has always been to refer patrons to the high school administration. These requests put an added burden on school secretaries and, because of school hours and school holidays, there is limited access throughout the year. Library workers and school administrators will now be able to easily forward requests to cdarchives.org for access to LCHS’s yearbooks. Plans have been created for both the upload of CDHS’s yearbooks and a full marketing campaign.

Information Framework Development for The Nature Conservancy - Oregon Office

The Oregon Chapter of The Nature Conservancy has an overwhelming amount of data. There are few standards for data management and lack of best practices. This has led to data being haphazardly stored across both cloud storage and local storage. Our solution to standardize data practices and encourage the use of cloud storage will improve data flow and organization. The goal is to improve how data is shared throughout the chapter, and cut down on the time it takes for members to find what they’re looking for, thereby increasing productivity chapter-wide.

Seattle Children’s Hospital Food Pantry

The food pantry program within the Seattle Children’s Hospital offers food to some outpatients and any inpatients families for free. Currently, the staff needs to make updates manually and perform weekly inventory updates based on food availability. A transition from the current physical order form to an online form would benefit from automatic form rendering based on food availability in the pantry and easier food inventory tracking. Additionally, an online application allows for more customizations, such as generating the form in a patient’s native language. Our mission is to make the ordering process as seamless and intuitive as possible.

SightLife International Operations Global Scorecard

Sightlife, is a leading global health organization working with low and middle-income countries aiming to eradicate corneal blindness by 2040. Historically, metric owners have tracked their progress using manual platforms leading to higher chances of errors. Our web application enables metric owners to easily enter and visualize data trends. This helps them identify pain points faced by the team, allowing them to make informed and effective decisions. This dashboard is home to all metric areas and provides leadership and other teams a platform to see how areas are doing across the organization.

Wrangling the Seattle Times Journalist Files

Wrangling the Seattle Times Journalist Files is a project organizing and cataloging the journalist files that were acquired from the Seattle Times by the University of Washington Libraries about 9 years ago. These files contain numerous documents that the journalists collected while researching and writing pieces for the paper. The task of the project was to create a set of guidelines for cataloging these resources so that student workers at the library can continue the work of organizing these documents. A LibGuide was also created for these documents to make them more accessible to the users of the library.
