SentiSage

Our capstone sponsor is PitchBook, a company that provides financial database and platform for Private Equity and Venture Capital professionals. While VC’s today have access to millions of data points, determining the hard-to-grasp “market sentiment” is still difficult. Various heuristics can be deployed to test sentiment, including financial news data. We built SentiSage, a working prototype which provides VC and PE professionals with sentiment analysis on news data and presents insights through visualizations and a user interface. Because of SentiSage, our users can better access the data points and trends they need when making crucial decisions in a volatile market.

Shield

In 2015, Washington State Public Defenders were taking over 1000 cases a month and spending an inadequate 36 minutes per case. Current legal processes do not support the variety of clients defenders must serve, such as the low income populations where permanent residence affects legal information delivery. By automating reminders of critical dates and visualizing long-term history, our client-case management system, Shield , allows public defenders to focus on protecting the public interest without getting caught up in tedious workflows

STAGE: Simple Technology Assisting Genuine Expression

STAGE is the modern solution to an age-old practice in the arts - producing a show. UW’s Department of Dance currently employs an entirely paper-based system to manage their productions, resulting in unnecessary miscommunications and information redundancy. Our application solves these problems by allowing users to easily manage critical aspects of a production. Every dancer creates a profile, every choreographer can easily select their cast, and directors get a comprehensive look at every show. Our goal is to reduce the stress of scheduling and communication, and let artists focus on what really matters - getting their work on STAGE.

TransitSphere

As the fastest growing city in the nation, Seattle's transportation infrastructure is under tremendous stress. As an interested citizen, information about our transportation system can be confusing and difficult to find. TransitSphere, built in partnership with the Seattle Department of Transportation, is an easy, interactive way to discover how Seattle's transportation assets work together to keep us moving. This tool gives citizens the how, what, and why of our city's transportation infrastructure management, and can serve as an introduction to a part of their government that they may not be familiar with.

The project showcases a solution with an end to end natural language processing backed text mining pipeline and a standalone front-end prototype. Derived from recent news articles, the project solution allows users to actively tune in and keep track of emerging spaces and trends of interests on the sponsor platform.

UW Night Market App

The UW Night Market mobile application alleviates long wait line issues that plague popular food festivals. Leveraging a mobile ordering system to facilitate the ordering process between attendees and vendors, the application increases attendee satisfaction and vendor sales. During this year’s UW Night Market event on May 12th, the application completed 483 orders and generated $4,553 in revenue for ten vendors in four hours.

Voyager 2 - Jupyter Extension

JupyterLab is one of the most popular tools for coding and sharing Data Science work. However, as with any coding-based tool, creating and exploring data visualizations within a Jupyter Notebook is tedious and inefficient. Our extension integrates Voyager 2 with JupyterLab to help data scientists seamlessly iterate between modeling and visualization within one of the most popular Data Science computing environments today. Most importantly, it will let people focus on exploration over specification, which ultimately leads to better analysis and decision making.

Waldo - A smart way to find smart people

Machine Learning and AI are increasingly powering the products in the world. With a small talent pool scattered around the country, how can companies find leaders to help build the next big thing? In partnership with Amazon’s Strategic Recruiting Team, the project provides a revolutionary tool to enable recruiters find the right talent in niche areas of applied sciences. The tool gathers information about prospective candidates, explores their social connections and understands the spread of talent communities in the United States. The insights help recruiters engage with the right candidates and match them to the right roles within the organization.

WasteLess

WasteLess is a mobile application that helps you reduce the amount of waste you are generating on a daily basis and embeds you in the Zero Waste movement. We curate resources from leaders in the community to help you ease into a Zero Waste lifestyle. You do not have to feel alone in your journey either; our application encourages members to share progress and even lets you set up friendly challenges to keep each other on track. WasteLess is a one-stop solution for anyone who wants to leave a smaller waste-footprint in a well-trodden world.

Your Voice, Your Choice Decision Dashboard

Your Voice, Your Choice (YVYC) is a participatory budgeting initiative of Seattle’s Department of Neighborhoods that allows community members democratically decide how to spend a portion of the City's budget on small-scale park and street improvements. Our project provides YVYC management team a one-stop map-based dashboard to help them escalate from exclusively manual operation to a flexible combination of both online and offline operations. With dramatically reduced workload and accelerated decision-making process, they can concentrate more on inter-departmental corporation and quality assurance. Our project also encourages democratic participation by offering community members a much easier access to YVYC.
