AI Potential with Service Requests and Incidents

Within the City of Seattle, the IT Department resolves service requests and incidents through service/help desk or the Service Hub system. Given the complexity of the data generated from the system, it's challenging for IT staff to extract actionable insights to expedite the resolution of stalled requests. This project aims to transform organizational management embedded with AI techniques. By implementing Llama 2 with the LangChain framework and running open-source large language models locally, we developed a chatbot (EVAN9000) to optimize operational efficiency while ensuring data security. Extensive experiments and evaluations have validated its effectiveness for promising enterprise-level use cases.

Arena Sports: Data Pipeline Modernization

Team Cherry Balls worked alongside Arena Sports to modernize and migrate their data pipeline to a new system. Previously, their data services utilized a less-efficient platform that led to inaccurate reports and laborious report building. The new system utilizes Fivetran, a cloud based data movement service, and connects to Microsoft’s Power BI, allowing for more consistent synchronizations and easier access to data. With our new workflow, we can now provide easier and more accurate dashboards to help various stakeholders of the firm gauge their operational health.

lululemon AI Tutor: Reducing Onboarding Time for Newly-Hired Store Associates

As a major omnichannel apparel retailer, lululemon employs thousands of retail associates across their 700+ stores. With a large and diverse product catalog, new employees must spend significant time learning what to recommend to shoppers. To combat steep onboarding time, we leveraged OpenAI’s latest GPT-4 model to create the lululemon AI tutor. The AI tutor is a web-based, internal platform that assists with the onboarding and training processes for newly hired lululemon in-store associates. The AI tutor utilizes Socratic-style questioning to gauge associate product familiarity and fill in critical knowledge gaps, facilitating efficient and thorough employee onboarding.

Retirement Adequacy Project

Achieving a comprehensive assessment of retirement benefits estimates and details can be a challenging task for anyone, especially for multiemployer pension plan participants. Our project, in collaboration with Rael & Letson, aims to make retirement planning more accessible and engaging for everyone, regardless of age or financial expertise. This platform allows individuals to conveniently access essential retirement planning information and pension resources, empowering them to make informed decisions about their financial future and secure retirement savings. From this, we hope to enhance awareness and accessibility of pension plans and retirement benefits for a broader audience.

Workplace Equity: Optimizing Data-Smart, Equity-Centered Work Environments

GEN, an organization that promotes gender equality in the workplace, works with organizations to help them become ‘GEN-certified’. These organizations face issues with the project management and organization structure of their certification process. Organizations have difficulty managing projects, which makes the certification process longer. This contributes to an increased strain on organization resources, less buy-in from employees, and a drawn-out certification process. In order to address these problems, Team Trailblazers conducted user research and used findings to shape a dashboard solution that enhances the project management of GEN’s certification process for clients and organizations.

Bawbab DAI MVP

In Kenya, the lack of formal addresses hinders package delivery. Our solution utilizes remote sensing images and mapping platforms to create a robust digital addressing system. We developed a prototype using GIS technologies, efficient design, and intuitive UX. Through UX research and development, we created an MVP that streamlines last-mile delivery and enhances user satisfaction. This benefits e-commerce, logistics, and end-users with a digital address. Accurate addresses improve emergency response and the delivery of essential services like healthcare and education. Our solution tackles this challenge, providing efficient delivery and improved accessibility in Kenya's address system.

Data-Driven Decision Making in Libraries

The PLA and ACRL launched Benchmark (librarybenchmark.org) in 2021, a tool for data-driven planning and advocacy in public and academic libraries. As Benchmark is a relatively new toolkit, this capstone project seeks to aid those library practitioners who might be unfamiliar with what it has to offer. Through web-based surveys, interviews, and document analysis, this project engages with library practitioners in various classifications to identify their data needs, develop use cases, and empower them to make data-driven decisions that advance DEI values.
