Data-Driven Parking in Seattle's Belltown North Neighborhood

An average driver in Seattle spends 58 hours a year looking for parking. To reduce this burden, city officials must first understand on-street parking occupancy and parking behaviors. The challenge is that pay station transaction data doesn’t reflect actual parking occupancy throughout the year. To reconcile this problem, we leveraged publicly available information assets to build statistical models to predict paid parking occupancy in Belltown North. Our machine learning model, analysis of factors related to occupancy, and documented process is moving the needle toward a citywide system of policies and driver tools that streamline the parking experience.

Efficient Data Migration Project

Have you ever thought about what happened behind the scenes when you search databases on your library’s online catalog? Exlibris, a ProQuest Company manages about more than 15,000 titles of databases and provide libraries with title metadata. The company recently developed a new back-end tool which aims to better serve its clients. The goal of our project is to develop an efficient data migration strategy and migrate metadata from the old tool into the new one. Since the library’s online catalog are becoming an integral part of our professional life, we are hoping to make it more convenient for everyone.

Gates Foundation: Grand Challenges Data Warehouse

The Grand Challenges Program is a global initiative to solve health and development problems for those most in need. It has been responsible for over 2800 grants in over 100 countries. One of the program’s largest funders, the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation, has been dispersing grants and collecting data throughout the years, but this data currently exists across many disparate sources, in various formats residing on different platforms. This data warehouse was created to synthesize all the data into a single stream that can be easily queried and analyzed to identify true success metrics.

IAC Homelessness Data Model

The City of Seattle Human Services Department (HSD) contracts with community organizations to provide housing & health services to people experiencing homelessness. Previously, HSD staff pieced together program & contract data from many sources. This is a time-consuming and frustrating process, but this information is critical for informing policy and highly visible through media outreach. To meet their needs, we produced a data warehouse and reporting system that captures institutional knowledge, automates data ingest, and makes data analysis more streamlined and trustworthy. We hope to help HSD tell a more complete story about Seattle’s service to its most vulnerable populations.

Movher

Moving is a painful and time-consuming process for companies and customers alike. Movher is a female owned moving and packaging firm based in Spokane. They have a track record of customer satisfaction; however, their own employees find it difficult to plan and organize moves. Currently, they are using several inflexible data management tools to estimate, dispatch, and move. Out solution unifies this process by implementing tiered authentication, integrated payment processing, automated estimation and singular calendar. All the necessary information is kept consistent and each employee has access to their data when and where they need it.

Natural Language Search

PitchBook Natural Language Search (NLS) is a general search experience improvement solution with natural language understanding. Currently the PitchBook platform requires selecting from more than 50 criteria checkboxes in advanced search for precise company searches. With our advanced NLP framework, this solution enables users to use a sentence to search for companies fast and efficiently. The NLS general search dashboard fetches targeted criteria based on a single sentence user typed in, and returns identified criteria and relevant company results from database. This project aims to improve user search experience and explore more AI possibilities for PitchBook in the long term.

Performance Dashboards in Power BI

Fluke Global Materials Team developed an Azure data warehouse for improved data analysis, retention, addressing the lack of standardization between sites and data collection. The factories produce printed one-off reports and use handwritten forms to record data which are discarded at the end of the month. Our project is to create dashboards to ensure employees have access to the right information. Users can interact with visualizations, dig deeper into data using Data Analysis Expressions (DAX) and make informed business decisions from the insights.

Phone Application Behavior in Network Traffic

Network traffic classification has grown tremendously in the past few decades primarily due to affordable data storage and explosively growing computing prowess bringing machine learning to the forefront in handling optimization and capacity control. In this project, we aim to classify network traffic into different categories of mobile apps to analyze customer usage and optimize network traffic. Through iterative cycles of development, we have generated network traffic, analyzed, engineered and modeled it to obtain a final product that our client can scale and implement on real-world traffic.

Plentifull

Local companies have a difficult time finding a bulk amount of workers for one-time jobs. This lack of ability to distribute job information and match it to multiple qualified workers is an information distribution problem. By simplifying entry into our database, standardizing job types, and using a custom-built algorithm to match jobs with workers, we are able to provide large quantities of workers to those who need it. We now have a fully designed software that fits our client & contractors’ needs. We also have a prototype, business plan, and development team that will continue the creation of our software.
