Microsoft Azure Lab Services (ALS) Migration Experience

Microsoft Azure Lab Services (ALS) provides on-demand or scheduled access to pre-configured VM’s to execute classes, trainings, and workshops. Last year, ALS released a new update consisting of improved and enhanced functionalities. Research insights suggest that customers take 1-month for migration, facing problems like frequent manual configurations, inconsistent documentation & hassle of communicating with customer service teams. The goal of this project is to design and develop a seamless migration experience, that enables customers to seamlessly migrate to the latest version. This migration experience reduced operational overhead for customers, empowering them to focus on tasks that effectively matter the most.

Stakeholder Investigation for UW Open Scholarship Commons

Verletta Kern and Beth Lytle collaborate to maintain the UW Libraries virtual space, Open Scholarship Commons. To expand this space into a more collaborative online platform, we conducted a needs assessment by interviewing other institutions with similar online platforms, as well as UW faculty. Through qualitative analysis, we determined recommendations and best practices for building an online digital scholarship commons that our sponsors can use to strategically develop an interdisciplinary online community at UW. This project supports the increase of interdisciplinary collaboration across UW.

Compliance Reporting & Tracking Chatbot

Microsoft's Mixed Reality GRC program currently leverages various GRC management solutions such as ticketing tools, dashboards, and automated workflows to meet the GRC obligations. However, as the volume of requests increases, the Mixed Reality GRC team seeks an integrated and centralized platform to reduce operational overhead, increase efficiency, and improve overall usability. This project creates a virtual chatbot to provide main features like submitting a request, updating a request, and troubleshooting questions. This new functionality will allow all Microsoft employees to communicate and resolve issues seamlessly with the Mixed Reality GRC program.

Developing Automated Workflows for Microsoft Mixed Reality

To help Microsoft’s Mixed Reality (MR) team manage their Governance, Risk, and Compliance (GRC) processes more effectively in a dynamic, centralized environment, we built a data wrangling pipeline to import Secure Controls Framework data into ServiceNow. We achieved the following key results: 1) data properly structured and imported into relevant ServiceNow target tables, 2) imported data automatically updated with regulatory changes, and 3) a ServiceNow dashboard to visualize and track compliance and control information. Through automated data management and transparent analytics, our work helps the MR team assess organizations’ regulatory compliance in a more efficient and cost-saving manner.

Improving member engagement of a non-profit organization (Cascade Bicycle Club) through website redesign

Cascade Bicycle Club suffers from a disorganized website, thus burdening user experience and reducing revenue/donations. This website redesign project includes three aspects. First, creating functional requirements. Second, conducting an analysis of CMS platforms and third party plugins that are compatible with Salesforce; our recommended CMS platform is Drupal 9 and an Events and Membership Management solution from Advanced Communities, a Salesforce boutique consultancy. Third, redesigning the information architecture to improve navigation experience for users. This website redesign project aims to optimize user experience while suggesting the best CMS platform that serves its functionalities and reduces management costs.

Kenworth Zero-Emissions Commercial Truck Dashboard

We developed a ZEV Dashboard for Kenworth using Tableau to help the decision-making process of the Kenworth Project Planning team. In this way, they will gain more insights into the conversion to ZEVs in response to the rise of CO2 emissions. In addition, to better adapt to future ZEV credit requirements set by the government, Kenworth can take advantage of the ZEV credit calculator and set up plans for future sales of ZEVs regarding climate change.

Password Sharing: A conversation starter

Joe, a partner at a VC shares a password with a team of 35 but paid for one seat with PitchBook. This is a violation of the terms of use, poses a security risk, and adds friction to account managers day to day. We implemented an intuitive interface built on a machine learning foundation by finding significant attributes in the user login data that will detect a password-sharing event. The valuable insights on usage data revealed strong correlations between a suspicious session with various types of usage that would help account managers monitor accounts with unusual usage on the platform.
