Educate | Connect | Empower

  • Educate students in career development techniques, practices and strategies enhancing their understanding of the various aspects and processes.
  • Connect students with alumni, prospective employers, recruiters and other community partners fostering an engaged community.
  • Empower students to take ownership of their career progression and journey.

Student Learning Outcomes

The iSchool Career Services team is committed to developing and offering career-related programming aimed at helping iSchool students achieve the following learning outcomes:

  • Decode a job announcement and understand job shopping strategies identifying necessary transferable skills, experiences, and technologies.
  • Perform a gap analysis and align career goals with their academic plan by incorporating gap skill development of both transferable and soft skills into their academic plan.
  • Build, engage, and nurture a professional network.
  • Effectively leverage holistic student experience (e.g. projects, fieldwork, internships, capstone, etc.) to convey the breadth and depth of their skills related to their career journey.
  • Construct employment materials (i.e. resume, cover letter, LinkedIn Profile, and portfolio) that effectively market themselves to prospective employers.
  • Understand and apply interviewing techniques and strategies as well as offer negotiation strategies.
  • Identify and effectively leverage job search platforms, strategies, and techniques.
