As an iSchool Informatics student, Sohrab Singh Seera took an internship at Seattle Children's Hospital. During his internship, Seera discovered that it took an incredible 100 hours to convert 25 patients’ four-day food logs into an Excel spreadsheet. The question that arose in Seera’s mind: How do we solve this 100-hour problem?
Seera’s solution, myMedDiary, is a cross-platform, HIPAA-compliant dietary capture application that seeks to change the dietary research landscape. Allowing practitioners to access real-time symptom data, myMedDiary helps users to understand, analyze and access data with clear data visualizations. During its successful pilot at Seattle Children’s, myMedDiary through brand name listings and improved supplier lookup by barcode.
What started as a project during his time at the iSchool became Seera’s professional trajectory, as the company is now in its third year of existence. He said his own startup journey has inspired him to encourage and support other entrepreneurial iSchool students.
“This project began before our Capstone and was truly kickstarted when Dr. Jason C. Yip allowed us to do our design UI/UX research as the final project for his INFO 300 Research Methods class,” Seera said. “Without his support at the time, we would not have been able to flesh out such a clean and easy-to-use UI on the application.
“We also received a lot of support from Frank Martinez and Nam-ho Park during the Capstone process. The iSchool community as a whole was very supportive, and it was a fantastic environment to launch the company.”
