iMentorship
Become a mentor to an Informatics or MSIM student!
The iMentorship Program connects students in the iSchool's Bachelor of Science in Informatics and Master of Science in Information Management programs with information professionals who provide career guidance, insight and networking support.
Program Overview
Timeline: October through April annually
Commitment: Approximately 10 hours of 1:1 meetings (typically every other week)
Format: Virtual or in-person meetings based on mentor-student preferences
Mentors help students navigate career choices and professional development. Each mentor-student pair creates a unique program tailored to the student's goals. There are no mandatory activities.
Who Can Mentor?
- Information and technology professionals from any background
- Recent graduates who can share current recruiting insights
- Remote mentors welcome — location is not a barrier
- iSchool alumni and non-alumni alike
Who You'll Mentor
Students from the Informatics and MSIM programs who share an interest in using information and technology to improve organizations, with a focus on equity, inclusion and social responsibility. Final-year students receive priority, but the program is open to all students on a space-available basis.
What Makes a Great Mentor?
- Share your professional journey and lessons learned
- Provide industry insights and career guidance
- Help expand professional networks through introductions
- Offer feedback on resumes, portfolios or interview preparation
- Be a supportive sounding board for career decisions
