Bawbab DAI MVP

In Kenya, the lack of formal addresses hinders package delivery. Our solution utilizes remote sensing images and mapping platforms to create a robust digital addressing system. We developed a prototype using GIS technologies, efficient design, and intuitive UX. Through UX research and development, we created an MVP that streamlines last-mile delivery and enhances user satisfaction. This benefits e-commerce, logistics, and end-users with a digital address. Accurate addresses improve emergency response and the delivery of essential services like healthcare and education. Our solution tackles this challenge, providing efficient delivery and improved accessibility in Kenya's address system.

Chīmu: Fostering Academic Teams for Success

Chīmu fosters positive experiences for team collaboration in an academic setting by focusing on three core concepts that make a great team: communication, accountability, and reflection. Our platform incorporates these concepts into three key features: icebreakers, team agreements, and team check-ins. We understand that teamwork is a continuous process that requires feedback from beginning to end, and our goal is to create a positive first impression. Through peer accountability, open communication, and feedback we aim to reduce negative team experiences. Our platform emphasizes the importance of the team agreement to establish clear expectations and encourage trust among team members.

Conzensus: Making Group Decisions Easy

Coordinating outings with friends can be difficult, particularly when everyone has different preferences. To remedy this, we created Conzensus, an app that simplifies group decision-making. Users select from broad categories that interest them, such as restaurants, parks, or museums. The app utilizes location-based discovery to recommend individual places within these categories, including tags, distance and price information. After an anonymous voting process, the results page displays the top three choices according to everyone’s preferences. Conzensus is a platform for discovering new and exciting experiences, so why waste time on endless planning when you could be exploring with your friends?

Interactive Data Visualization for Distributed Acoustic Sensing

Geohazards in the Pacific Northwest cause significant annual financial losses. To address this, the University of Washington's Photonic Sensing Facility (PSF) collects seismic data using advanced Distributed Acoustic Sensing technology. Their primary objective is to develop a user-friendly web application for widespread data access and visualization. The target audience includes researchers, public scientists, geohazard enthusiasts, and educators. This initiative aims to enhance geohazard monitoring, mitigate risks, and promote knowledge sharing. PSF's efforts contribute to addressing the pressing issue of geohazards monitoring while facilitating collaboration and informed decision-making.

iSchool Student Services: Automating Academic Advising with ISAAC

The iSchool Advising Team, along with other educational student services, encounter obstacles in delivering swift guidance due to outdated technologies and an ever-expanding student-to-adviser ratio. In response, we introduce ISAAC (Informatics Student Auto Advising Cyclopedia), an open-source information architecture that centralizes advising information. By incorporating advanced features like searchable indices and data analytics, ISAAC facilitates prompt assistance for basic student inquiries and enables advisers to prioritize complex student interactions. With its extensible nature, ISAAC revolutionizes advising with the potential to adapt to future student service requirements, guaranteeing enhanced efficiency and accessibility to advising information for everyone.

LangTime Engine: Simplifying Conlanging, One Word at a Time

Responsible for languages such as Klingon and Dothraki, constructed language creators invent the grammar, phonology, and lexicon of fictional languages - a practice known as “conlanging”. Despite the growing popularity of conlanging, conlangers lack sufficient tools to document their languages. In turn, conlangers devote significant time and effort towards recording information by-hand. In this capstone project our team collaborated with renowned conlangers David Peterson and Jessie Sams to create LangTime Engine, an application that simplifies the process of recording a conlang’s lexicon. As a result, we hope to ease the manual burden of conlangers and to make conlanging more accessible.

LookingGlass: Take a look into your fridge and your food waste habits

Designed for young adults who are living away from home for the first time, LookingGlass helps those living in shared households reduce food waste and over purchasing. App features include food inventory tracking, the ability to sort inventory by different categories such as expiration date, quantity, and location, joining a shared fridge with other members in your household, and offering up and claiming any extra or unused food from your roommates. These features allow users to track what's in their fridge while also encouraging sharing in order to reduce food waste.

Marine Rescue: The Sea-quel

There is not enough emphasis on learning about the ocean in and outside the classroom. This, combined with rising concerns about climate change, inspired us to continue developing Marine Rescue. Marine Rescue is a game for elementary students to learn about human impacts on marine wildlife in the Pacific Northwest. Through interactive stories and short games, students build empathy for native species such as salmon and seagulls, and helping to solve their problems through fun, educational games. We hope that this will inspire the next generation to take action against ocean pollution and help solve climate change.
