Microsoft Azure Lab Services (ALS) Migration Experience

Microsoft Azure Lab Services (ALS) provides on-demand or scheduled access to pre-configured VM’s to execute classes, trainings, and workshops. Last year, ALS released a new update consisting of improved and enhanced functionalities. Research insights suggest that customers take 1-month for migration, facing problems like frequent manual configurations, inconsistent documentation & hassle of communicating with customer service teams. The goal of this project is to design and develop a seamless migration experience, that enables customers to seamlessly migrate to the latest version. This migration experience reduced operational overhead for customers, empowering them to focus on tasks that effectively matter the most.

NetPrism: Developing a Machine Learning Model for Predicting Product Prices

NetPrism develops software for understanding e-commerce trends. Our capstone project addresses the common problem of uncertainty in determining the best time to purchase a product. To solve this issue, we developed a Machine Learning model that leverages thousands of historical price data points to accurately predict the price of a product in the next 30 days. Our Price Prediction model provides graphical price predictions that enable individuals to make informed purchasing decisions, leading to more effective allocation of resources and less overspending. Our project demonstrates the utility of data analytics in bettering everyday finances.

Real-time Speech Emotion Detection

This project focuses on the development of conversational analytics and AI solutions for Seasalt.ai, aimed at analyzing real-world speech data for insights. Multiple Machine Learning models were implemented, with Convolutional Neural Networks (CNN) demonstrating the highest accuracy improvement of approximately 67%. The CNN model effectively identifies emotions from audio data clips, enhancing conversational analytics within Seasalt.ai's product SeaMeet. Extensive experiments and evaluations have been conducted to validate the effectiveness of the CNN-based approach, showcasing its potential for real-time applications such as affective computing, virtual assistants, and emotion-aware human-computer interaction.

Simplifying Lab Creation and Management for Educators

Traditionally, creating and publishing labs in Azure Lab Services has required technical expertise, creating a barrier for non-technical educators to easily utilize the platform's powerful capabilities for their classroom needs. Our project simplifies the lab creation process for educators, making it easy to create and manage labs with minimal technical expertise. Our solution has achieved a 60% reduction in lab setup time and an estimated 30% increase in Azure lab adoption and usage. Our solution empowers educators to provide equal opportunities for all students to learn and succeed, promoting equity and accessibility regardless of their technical background.

A Survey of Software Journals

The goal of this Capstone project is to investigate the qualities of journals that accept software articles, how they communicate those expectations to authors, and how many articles have been published in recent years. Between 2014-2021, there has been a steady upward trend in the number of software articles published. Most journals do not give authors clear instructions about the expectations for software articles; however, of those that do, archiving, persistent links, and documentation are usually required. We hope that this data will draw attention to the myriad of guidelines and issues in software articles and journals.
