Students spend thousands of dollars on a university degree only to forget much of the information learned a few years later. Research shows reviewing information regularly is the key to building long-term information recall. iKeep is a mobile app which provides users with quick, targeted questions based on University of Washington iSchool curriculum to improve recall over time. The mobile application assists students who have taken iSchool core courses in retaining these fundamental skills to remain competitive in both their academic and professional careers.

Some tribal leaders and communities may not have access to the information they need. There are many factors at work, including unreliable internet access, paywalls and academic jargon, limited resources, etc. At the same time, the pressure is on tribal communities to respond to pressing issues like climate change, water security, global pandemics, data sovereignty, and more. By developing and sharing these modules, with tribal citizens as our core audience, we hope to place information in the hands of communities so they can share and disseminate this knowledge as they wish.

My project was sponsored by the Bellingham Public Library and built on directed fieldwork that I conducted in the summer of 2020 to support BPL’s project "Peoples’ Perspectives", a community initiative hoping to capture life in Whatcom County during COVID-19. The resulting archive, consisting of submissions from the community, will be preserved and displayed online through Omeka S. I provided recommendations for BPL on best practices, vocabulary, metadata, and digital preservation going forward.

The Language Metadata Table (LMT) is a standard set of language codes used in the media and entertainment industries. The LMT Working Group received several sets of requests for new language code additions and updates. I compared these requests to the existing coverage, performed background research to prepare the languages for ingesting, and made recommendations for inclusion. As a result, 95 languages have been sent to the LMT Working Group for review and inclusion, for an increase in coverage of almost 40%, while an additional 83 were sent to subcommittees and partner organizations for further review and discussion.

Smartsheet is a suite of products that makes teams productive through cloud-connected tools. System Administrator users using Smartsheet manage their users and settings, and they use reports and bulk actions for auditing purposes and user management. In the current system, reports and bulk action statuses are sent via email. Thus, there is no possible way to audit or track these items, which causes unnecessary confusion. Through this project, we designed & developed a dashboard for users to enable managing reports and bulk actions conveniently. Through these new features, admin users gain more control and flexibility to do their jobs.

The world of private equity (PE), already formidable in size, is expected to see continued rapid growth in the coming years. Global PE assets under management are forecast to reach US$5.8 trillion by 2025. PitchBook tasked us with identifying additional sources of private-market info to supplement their robust information-architecture. Specifically, PitchBook requested publicly available, granular information pertaining to the investments made by an individual fund of an investor, known as deal-to-fund tagging.

The pandemic has caused us to start shifting towards a more remote workspace for students and industry workers. Software developers have the tools to be able to work in this condition, but the experience is not always great. Developers in teams have trouble working together on projects because the current tools available make it difficult. Most of the issues lie in the fact that code is not easily shareable and requires slightly tedious tasks to do so. That is why we have made SSCode—an online programming platform that allows developers to create programming scripts online and script synchronously with others.

The Cabrinety Project is a large-scale digital preservation effort between Stanford University Libraries and the National Institute of Standards and Technology to create forensic disk images and photographic scans of materials in the software series of the Stephen Cabrinety Collection in the History of Microcomputing. My task was to assist with digital preservation by sending out permission agreements for the digital software items in the collection. I identified rights holders for the 8,000+ items in the collection, sent permission agreements, and then based off their response, determined the level of access each digital item will have in the collection.

Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, many Chinese citizens are eager to return to their home country. However, the Chinese authority imposed numerous travel restrictions, which made traveling back to China very challenging. TravelSaver provides regularly updated travel and quarantine policies and tools to manage travel plans, guiding users through the complicated procedures from preparation, scheduling for Covid PCR testing to the quarantine process. We expect TravelSaver to make the returning plans less stressful for Chinese citizens. More people would benefit from it and constantly contribute to validating and updating travel plans to polish the information and planning tools.
