Microsoft's Mixed Reality GRC program currently leverages various GRC management solutions such as ticketing tools, dashboards, and automated workflows to meet the GRC obligations. However, as the volume of requests increases, the Mixed Reality GRC team seeks an integrated and centralized platform to reduce operational overhead, increase efficiency, and improve overall usability. This project creates a virtual chatbot to provide main features like submitting a request, updating a request, and troubleshooting questions. This new functionality will allow all Microsoft employees to communicate and resolve issues seamlessly with the Mixed Reality GRC program.

Women of color students are a marginalized identity within the field of STEM spaces. In understanding how we can better support WOC students in educational settings, we can turn to teaching assistants. Teaching assistants play a direct, vital role in providing encouragement and empowerment to help students strive in pursuing the tech field. CONNECTA’s mission is to educate and engage students and teaching assistants to better equip them with tools to work with students with diverse backgrounds in creating comfortable and engaging learning spaces.

Drawing upon several philosophical theories and experiential pedagogies, I've designed a gamified learning device to assist learners in developing their research skills so that they will be better equipped with the literacies to navigate our complicated mediasphere in their personal, academic and professional lives. This device’s collection echoes the random assortments found in the historical variations of curiosity cabinets. Learners will manually inspect and speculate about the cabinet’s mysterious and unusual objects and then will utilize library resources to investigate their actual origins or functions. This learning program is repeatable and adaptable for many types of learners.

The Historic Fort Steilacoom Association publishes a regular newsletter for their members, which contains valuable information about the Fort’s deep ties to local and national history. Over 150 of these newsletters are available online, but are only organized by basic bibliographic information which impedes precise discovery. To assist with this issue, we developed a custom indexing language, tagged each newsletter article, and developed a prototype of the web version of the index. Our indexing language was also intentionally designed to better represent the women’s and indigenous history at the Fort.

The Seattle Opera Costume Shop has over 1300 linear feet of costume items, ranging from tricorn hats to corsets to feathered bird tails, but lacked a comprehensive inventory of its stock. The Costume Database project aimed to tackle a fraction of this problem by creating a database of its rental stock. The new cloud-based database describes, tracks and links costume changes, actors, characters, individual costume items, and more for better access and searchability for shop staff, designers, and outside opera companies.

The Mediterranean Diet has been scientifically shown to improve people’s cognitive abilities. However, there is currently no nutrition app on the market specifically for elderly patients with early-onset dementia. Our team sought to create a new app based on the Mediterranean Diet app, Olitor, and increase the app’s accessibility for patients with early-onset dementia. Through usability testing, we found that relevant users wanted an interface with enlarged text, simplified language, and the option to record their nutrition more frequently. We thus implemented these features into our app so that this population can reach their nutritional goals and lead healthier lives.

Cultured is a web app that builds personalized itineraries through an interactive quiz. As vaccination rates increase, people seek in-person experiences but struggle to coordinate with loved ones to try new things in their city. This led us to a key question: how might young adults make plans more efficiently to discover new activities and experiences? When the pandemic lockdown closed public libraries across Washington state, staff had to turn on a dime and evaluate their services and programs catering to users who could no longer access these spaces. Washington State Libraries collected data about services added or modified to accommodate patrons. Our team curated data for 60 city, rural, and island libraries in Washington state and presented our results in the form of a curated dataset, a data curation protocol, and a report. This collection serves as an archive of COVID-19 and 21st-century history and helps libraries and other public institutions prepare for future disasters.

The Data Advocacy Toolkit for Small Libraries seeks to empower libraries with limited time and staff resources by adding value to the data collection work they already do each year. The Toolkit provides ready-made reports and data visualizations using real-time analysis of the operational metrics libraries must collect as part of the annual Public Libraries Survey (PLS). And unlike third-party data analytics platforms, the Toolkit is built using software libraries will already have access to and be familiar with, flattening the learning curve and putting data-driven storytelling within reach.

The information problem to solve is scattered organizational data, the lack of data normalization and non-collaborative information system. Based on our user stories and Entity Relationship diagram, we created a database for Foundry10 hosted on Azure to store our database as a cloud solution. We utilized Microsoft Access as our front-end platform to communicate with the database.
