Penny-fyt

Donating to charity is harder than liking a post about a cause on social media. Researching causes, putting payment info into different websites, and following up on how the donation was used are hurdles a donor must jump over while donating, while liking something only takes one click. Penny-Fyt removes the confusion in the donation process by combining social media and donating to create a platform where users donate by liking or commenting on a post created by a charity, in a community where donors can connect with charities and keep up-to-date with how their donations are making a difference.

PicFix

This winter, Seattle experienced an unprecedented volume of potholes, graffiti, and abandoned vehicles, among other symptoms of a rapidly growing city. These issues typically go ignored and unreported because people don’t know how to report them or are off-put by the large and unintuitive forms. PicFix aims to revolutionize the reporting process by utilizing computer vision and form auto-filling to make reporting problems as easy as taking a picture. Nearly all data required for the report is pulled from the photo to create a faster, simpler experience for the user. Smart images: worth more than a thousand words.

Rhema Life Ministry Website Project

Rhema Life Ministry has an interesting information problem, in that they add a complex network of interpersonal interactions to the normal information challenges most organizations face. In my Capstone project, I built on their best practices by applying iSchool lessons about Information Grounds, Knowledge Management, Digital Curation, and of course Website Development. Software used included Photoshop, Lightroom, GitHub, VS Code and Nero. Communication skills and active listening were very important in allowing me to reach my goals, and exceed my sponsor’s expectations as we worked to develop a website that would support current success and future growth.

Safely

In large cities like Seattle, there are many situations where people feel unsafe when travelling on foot, particularly at night. While it’s difficult to provide assistance in time to someone who has the misfortune of falling victim to crime, Safely aims to preemptively inform users of dangerous situations before they enter physical proximity of the danger. In a mobile app using map-based visualizations of Seattle Police Department crime logs, we show where crime has recently occurred and where “trouble areas” are. Through this and user-submitted incidents, Safely keeps users vigilant of threats instead of becoming victims to crime. SE Flow Chlorine Maker Dashboard

The SE Flow is a chlorine generator currently being developed by a team at MSR Global Health. In the future, the SE Flow will be deployed in countries to be used in clinics for infection prevention and control. We were given an opportunity to work with their team to design and develop an internal administrative dashboard that will help them manage and maintain their devices. In addition, we also developed a website for donors that have donated to this philanthropic cause that allows them to track their devices, hoping to give them a sense of fulfillment and encourage future donations.

Sight Transit

Sight Transit seeks to enable individuals with extreme vision impairments to navigate public transit in King County with a greater sense of independence. We utilize Raspberry Pis that act as beacons at bus stops, intended to create learnable patterns in the environment. Through our beacons' communication and integrating both the Google Maps and OneBusAway API, bus stop locations, directions, and arrival times become more precise and accessible. Designed to be VoiceOver compatible and usable to low-vision users, Sight Transit empowers users by making the environment work for them, providing the freedom to simply go.

SightLife Data: Turning Data Points into Human Stories

Successful data communication inspires action. In India, where nearly half of the world’s corneal blind population lives, policy makers must be persuaded to implement policy change to more efficiently treat these citizens. Sponsored by SightLife, SightLife Data is an information visualization tool that dynamically demonstrates the potential impact that policy change can have. SightLife will be able to use this site to create advocates and inspire policy change that will help the organization accomplish their mission of eradicating corneal blindness worldwide by the year 2040.

Símera - Maximize productivity with AI

We are Símera. This team, made up of Sean Ker (Designer), Alexander Bell-Towne (Developer), Tyler Bauer (Developer), and Christopher Maglio (Project Manager), aims to revolutionize daily planning. Current planners require users to input a multitude of information, and also make the user decide the best way to go about completing these tasks. Our research found that many users are deterred by this painstakingly long process, and consequently developed a solution. Símera uses machine learning along with Artificial Intelligence to become the personal assistant for the everyday person. Simply tell us “I need to get milk” or “I need to go to the gym today” and Símera knows the who, what, when, and where in your schedule this event would be the most convenient.

StreamSurfer

StreamSurfer addresses the issue of online legal streams being difficult to find, and users not knowing which sources are legal or illegal. For example, if a user were to search for a movie or TV show on a popular search engine they’d get legal and illegal results as well as non-stream results. StreamSurfer solves this by creating a search engine specifically for online legal streams of movies and TV shows. Users can search for a show or movie, returning back links to online legal streams for that show or movie, as well as information about the movie or TV show.

TellToo

TellToo focuses on the journey we take as individuals to find meaning, purpose, and fulfillment in life. For many of us, technology has changed the way we socialize. Platforms like Facebook, Twitter, and YouTube have pushed social interactions to shorter, less personal, and more trivial exchanges. This has left certain core elements of socialization in the dust. Our project focuses on modernizing those elements and building a platform that delivers a more human centric method of sharing and connecting. Our mobile application allows users to tell stories through audio recording and visually navigate chains to naturally related stories.
