Postcards

Postcards is a zero-clutter social media site that closes the generation gap. It connects users of vastly different ages through the use of age-proof postcards—online cards that family and friends can post to update loved ones on their whereabouts. Postcards allows users to request assistance from others within the group, helping families and friends support one another.

The Naturalist's Scrapbook

The Naturalist’s Scrapbook is a digital crowdsourcing project that activates the relevance of archival materials while growing community investment in the Santa Cruz Museum of Natural History collections. Featuring digitized excerpts of the scrapbook made by the Museum’s founding collector, naturalist and lighthouse keeper Laura Hecox, the project asks volunteers to transcribe details and identify keywords for each scrapbook clipping. This information is operationalized by museum staff to engage nontraditional volunteers, enhance mission-relevant outreach content, increase awareness of the Museum’s history, and develop new directions for further research into the local history of Santa Cruz natural history.

Tunite

Problem: 1% of musicians dominate 77% fo the market, this implies that independent musicians and those who just entered the industry do not have the resources and exposure they need to compete with the 1%. Result: We built a collaboration platform where musicians share and evolve their music. We allow user to discover and be inspired by other musicians and create meaningful connections. With Tunite, we provide up and coming artists an opportunity to break into the music industry.

Book Lust: Readers’ Advisory Toolkit

We created a toolkit based on Nancy Pearl’s four doorways approach to Readers’ Advisory, that may be used by any public library interested in creating or enhancing their RA program. Pearl’s approach is based on her own unique understanding of what appeals to readers, which helps library staff and patrons discover a wider array of books to select from. The Book Lust Readers’ Advisory Toolkit includes staff training, display materials, programming, a social media plan, and host website. All elements were implemented at the Kitsap Regional Library system and the Coeur d'Alene Public Library.

BrandInk

Social media has drastically changed the way that business communicate with customers. Leveraging social media is especially important for small businesses with limited time and financial resources. BrandInk is a platform that allows businesses to understand their online posts from the customer perspective, before posting. By fine tuning content before publishing, businesses are able to achieve optimal results with social media marketing. BrandInk also makes managing different marketing channels easy, and allows the user to publish across multiple social channels. It also offers a powerful API, allowed for the service to be integrated into other platforms.

CoCA Archives Wiki Project

The Center on Contemporary Art (CoCA) Seattle Archives Wiki Project, upon culmination, will be a go-to page for those who are interested in learning more about CoCA. It will also give the Center a new way to reconnect with past artists and presenters, curators, and audiences, both general and within the arts community, “to tell the whole CoCA story”. Although the CoCA gallery is several contemporary art museums/galleries, this project will still be a great way to allow Seattle residents, visitors, and those who are located elsewhere to get a glimpse of another aspect of the history and spirit of the Seattle contemporary art scene.

Devour

We aim to solve the age old question “What should we eat for dinner?” Devour solves this problem and provides key recipes that every individual in your party will enjoy. We recognize that eating is more than just an individual act, and embrace that personalization goes beyond the individual. Applications like Netflix and Pandora have disrupted their respective industries by providing their specific user with recommended results. Our application takes it even further. Instead of stopping at providing key recipes for the individual user (which we do), we incorporate everyone in your party to enjoy the fruits of our application.

Goya

Goya is a location driven social media application that lets users experience social network posts in person. Our project improves upon the social media experience by making it more real to a user. Posts on goya can be seen on a map, giving users a way to contextualize social media posts and relate to their community. Users are encouraged to visit posts in person by receiving points upon check-in; these points are akin to karma on reddit. The functionality of goya not only encourages community participation but also entices users to be more active and see the world around them.

Literary Landmark™ Website Updates and Advocacy

Literary Landmarks™ are historically significant locations that pertain to literature and have been officially dedicated by United for Libraries: A Division of the American Library Association. United for Library’s Literary Landmark™ project had two gaps: an incomplete website and a lack of advocacy. To help update the website I edited 120 landmark entries to include a description, dedication date, Partner, and a separate webpage. My advocacy plan consisted of contacting several sites and encourage them to apply for Literary Landmark™ status, and starting an online Literary Landmark™ photo tag.

Lynx

Messaging services are the go-to platform for sharing links with others. But with over 205 billion messages sent daily, these links get quickly lost in our messaging history. The Lynx web-app offers a solution for users to archive and find links they send and receive. By integrating with a user’s Gmail, Slack and Facebook, Lynx automatically saves links sent and received over these services. The user can then browse recently sent links, tag links for easy searching, and search saved links. Lynx recognizes that sent links have inherent value to the user, and should not get lost in message history.
