Milo App

People often fondly talk about their unique experiences at college but more often than not they also speak of the missed opportunities and things they should have done. Universities however big or small are complex entities bustling with life and activity and it seems fairly impossible to be able to make the most of these opportunities. We at Team Milo decided to create a University wide personalized social media platform to help students, faculty and employees to meet new people, make plans and mobilize!! Our team name and motto is ‘Milo’, a Hindi word which does not simply mean ‘to meet’ but adds the much needed dimension of ‘willingness’ to its meaning. In this age, where our virtual presence is taking over our social presence, we felt it was time to take advantage of the very fact and promote interaction & collaboration on campus and to simply make some new friends and have some fun!

Noonum Sentiment Analysis

Understand relationships between stock movement and social media sentiment in the company's Twitter posts is appealing and catching attentions of both academic and industrial researchers  nowaday. One of the factors preventing their analysis from great accuracy is the quality of the text data and how to mine it. Our team want to examine some of current models (Logistics, Naïve Bayes and CNN) to mine text data, specifically for enterprises’ tweets. Our research question is: To mine data from companies’ tweets in Twitter, which one is the best method to build a tweet sentiment analysis model with limited supervised data?

Penny-fyt

Donating to charity is harder than liking a post about a cause on social media. Researching causes, putting payment info into different websites, and following up on how the donation was used are hurdles a donor must jump over while donating, while liking something only takes one click. Penny-Fyt removes the confusion in the donation process by combining social media and donating to create a platform where users donate by liking or commenting on a post created by a charity, in a community where donors can connect with charities and keep up-to-date with how their donations are making a difference.

Social Media & Dialogue Facilitation: An Autoethnographic Journey

For organizations and groups, combining social media and dialogue together can be even more of an important tool for communication, promotion, awareness, and action. While opportunities are there for dialogue via social media platforms, it can be hard to implement due to a lack of training or experience in dialogic methods, or a lack of awareness that these dialogic tools are available. This research project investigated the impact of using dialogue facilitation techniques on social media in an effort to have more meaningful dialogue and increased engagement via electronic platforms.

Student-Instructor Digital Relationships in the American Undergraduate Classroom

Mobile technology and digital communication channels are ubiquitous in today’s undergraduate classroom. What impact have they had on the personal relationship between students and their instructors? I conducted a pilot study within the Information School, surveying and interviewing both undergraduates and their instructors. Results indicated that the personal relationship remains authority-based, with both actors striving to maintain the divide, but digital communication opens a new space in which undergraduates and instructors interact, potentially on the professional level. Further study could illuminate this space, guiding higher education toward a better understanding of classroom relationships.

TellToo

TellToo focuses on the journey we take as individuals to find meaning, purpose, and fulfillment in life. For many of us, technology has changed the way we socialize. Platforms like Facebook, Twitter, and YouTube have pushed social interactions to shorter, less personal, and more trivial exchanges. This has left certain core elements of socialization in the dust. Our project focuses on modernizing those elements and building a platform that delivers a more human centric method of sharing and connecting. Our mobile application allows users to tell stories through audio recording and visually navigate chains to naturally related stories.

Yuzu

Yuzu is a mobile application that targets to solve the pain points when buying in bulk. While wholesale stores offer great value when bulk shopping, it also contributes to the food waste crisis by the excessive quantity of bulk items left unfinished. Yuzu allows its users (Yuzu-ers) to find shoppers in real-time, at the same location, to split items with. Shoppers purchase items at bulk prices and reduced quantities by being matched with each other depending on the shared items of interest. This solution creates a social community where sharing is not only caring, but saving money and reducing waste.

Co-Aud

Co-Aud focuses on fostering a creative incubator for those interested in animating, game developing, and voice acting. Co-Aud aims to create a simple interface that will make collaborating between content creators and voice actors as easy as possible. Co-Aud will streamline the process for content creators to post an opportunity and to find the right voice actors/actresses the role. In addition, this will provide voice actors/actresses a way to increase their experience and skills. Not only will Co-Aud act as a central hub, it will also challenge the community with monthly contests. The goal is to connect communities in an organized and efficient manner to reach out and collaborate on communal projects. We would also like to provide a platform through which amateur voice actors can showcase their talents and contact others who are trying to get into the industry, and network with content creators who provide projects and feedback.

FoodBridge

Over 100 billion pounds of food goes to waste in America every year. Restaurants and caterers compost or dispose food that can be served to people through foodbanks. Safety is a major factor since prepared food has a short shelf life and needs to reach foodbanks with minimum delay. FoodBridge is an easy to use mobile application that aims to connect sources of excess food to foodbanks by sharing information about the type and quantity of food in real time. The redistribution of food occurs locally and is prioritized based on proximity. The application is made available to organizations who are partnered with Food Lifeline and certified by them to handle perishable food. This ensures that stringent safety standards are maintained during the entire redistribution process. Our aim is to build a sustainable community that encourages, engages and simplifies food redistribution.
