Identifying and Delivering Insights

With 345+ data points on 920,000+ companies worldwide PitchBook provides the industry's most comprehensive M&A, PE and VC database and analysis Platform. However, there is no accurate prediction of a company’s potential growth or logical, unbiased correlation between the many data points that will aid in decision-making process. Team Infoception performed extensive data research and analysis, and designed a visualization prototype that will provide needed insights to PitchBook’s customers. This dynamic, interactive dashboard provides unbiased insights based on user preferences and will hugely benefit PitchBook users to easily access, understand, compare and convert data to relevant, well-informed decisions.

Improving Patient Care While Reducing Health Care Costs

Cutting costs while improving the patient experience of care (including satisfaction and quality), can be a challenge. Instead of creating innovative programs, health organizations can utilize existing programs. Shifting patients use of facility to mail order programs may alleviate some of these withstanding issues and improve health outcomes overall. Research that I conducted showed that past endeavors did not include patient input or entire organizational involvement. Analyzing the past year’s data, I provided the organization with the number of facility orders that can be shifted to mail order (without any impact to patients) along with a predicted forecasted trend.

Literary Landmark™ Website Updates and Advocacy

Literary Landmarks™ are historically significant locations that pertain to literature and have been officially dedicated by United for Libraries: A Division of the American Library Association. United for Library’s Literary Landmark™ project had two gaps: an incomplete website and a lack of advocacy. To help update the website I edited 120 landmark entries to include a description, dedication date, Partner, and a separate webpage. My advocacy plan consisted of contacting several sites and encourage them to apply for Literary Landmark™ status, and starting an online Literary Landmark™ photo tag.

Lynx

Messaging services are the go-to platform for sharing links with others. But with over 205 billion messages sent daily, these links get quickly lost in our messaging history. The Lynx web-app offers a solution for users to archive and find links they send and receive. By integrating with a user’s Gmail, Slack and Facebook, Lynx automatically saves links sent and received over these services. The user can then browse recently sent links, tag links for easy searching, and search saved links. Lynx recognizes that sent links have inherent value to the user, and should not get lost in message history.

Metadata Management of Scarecrow Video's Silent Film Collection

For my MLIS Capstone project, I examined each item in Scarecrow Video's silent film collection to correctly represent each film title, according to the rules of the Fundamental Requirements of Bibliographic Records (FRBR). Many of the titles reflected only the title of the DVD or VHS, not the titles of the films themselves. Cleaned-up records provide a more accurate reflection of Scarecrow's inventory and rental statistics, and they allow customers to more easily search the in-store database.

Moving a Medical Library

The Swedish Medical Center Library will be moving to a new and smaller location, due to the demolition of a portion of the 747 Broadway Building. The goal of this Capstone project was to drastically downsize the library’s physical collections, as the new library space will be decreasing by 75%. Determinations were made to either keep or discard journals, textbooks, and microfiche based on the needs of the medical community.

Pouncing on the Purrfect Database

Specialty Purebred Cat Rescue (SPCR), a nonprofit founded in 1999, is the largest rescue of its kind operating out of the Midwest region of the US. It has a great need for a remotely hosted rescue management software which can be accessed via the internet. After discontinuing its use of a shelter management database in 2015, data recovery was nonexistent. Additionally, SPCR currently does not capture microchip data nor adopter data in electronic form. The Capstone’s agenda was to test several shelter databases, provide a recommendation, develop a metadata guide, and assist with the implementation of the shelter management software.

Rhema Life Ministry Website Project

Rhema Life Ministry has an interesting information problem, in that they add a complex network of interpersonal interactions to the normal information challenges most organizations face. In my Capstone project, I built on their best practices by applying iSchool lessons about Information Grounds, Knowledge Management, Digital Curation, and of course Website Development. Software used included Photoshop, Lightroom, GitHub, VS Code and Nero. Communication skills and active listening were very important in allowing me to reach my goals, and exceed my sponsor’s expectations as we worked to develop a website that would support current success and future growth.

Road.IO

Computer Vision, an integral component in the development of Autonomous Cars, requires tens of thousands of tagged images for supervised learning. Currently, established and emerging companies must collect data from scratch, wasting time and money. They find that it is impractical to collate sufficiently geographically and semantically robust corpora effectively alone. Therefore, Road.io crowdsources dashcam footage from drivers which we then process and package in a Data-as-a-Service Model to Autonomous Car Companies. We seek to hasten the commercialization of Self-Driving Cars, become a premier resource for responsive, custom-filtered crowdsourced Data and empower everyone to have a global impact.

SightLife Data: Turning Data Points into Human Stories

Successful data communication inspires action. In India, where nearly half of the world’s corneal blind population lives, policy makers must be persuaded to implement policy change to more efficiently treat these citizens. Sponsored by SightLife, SightLife Data is an information visualization tool that dynamically demonstrates the potential impact that policy change can have. SightLife will be able to use this site to create advocates and inspire policy change that will help the organization accomplish their mission of eradicating corneal blindness worldwide by the year 2040.
