Negin Dahya, along with co-authors Sarah Dryden-Peterson and Elizabeth Adelman, received the 2018 AERA (American Educational Research Association) Palmer O. Johnson Memorial Award for Pathways to Educational Success Among Refugees: Connecting Locally and Globally Situated Resources. The article was originally published in American Educational Research Journal in December 2017. She will be honored at the 2018 AERA Annual Meeting awards luncheon in New York this April.
Anna Hoffman gave an invited talk at the University of Kansas Libraries (March 15th) on the role of vulnerability, violence, and justice in data ethics. The talk was titled Data Violence: Dignity and Vulnerability Beyond Algorithmic Discrimination. KU Libraries, the College of Liberal Arts and Sciences, and the Office of Diversity and Equity co-sponsored the talk.
Susan Hildreth, Joseph Tennis, Chris Jowaisas, and Beck Tench served as panelists on the Ensuring the Future of Libraries: Connecting the Academy and the Profession concurrent program session at the Public Library Association (PLA) conference in Philadelphia, PA. They focused on the iSchool Distinguished Practitioner in Residence (DPIR) program and Susan’s research on the perceived gap between MLIS curricula and skills needed in twenty-first century libraries.
