Information School researchers took the opportunity to showcase their work on Thursday, Feb. 22, at the annual iSchool Research Fair.
The fair featured 70 posters and interactive displays that highlighted the breadth of the iSchool’s research efforts in areas such as data science and analytics, digital youth, health, human-computer interaction, indigenous knowledge, and librarianship.
It was the first iSchool Research Fair for Dean Anind Dey, who took the helm in January. In his remarks, Dey spoke of the strength the school draws from the interdisciplinary nature of its research.
Among the projects on display:
- Patients as Safeguards, a project aimed at preventing medical errors by promoting better information sharing between caregivers and patients.
- Anachronism by Design, an examination of the icons commonly used on computers and whether their design makes sense for modern users.
- $T, which aims to make touch devices more usable for people with motor impairments. It’s part of the Mobile and Accessible Design (MAD) Lab’s touchscreen research
- NatureCollections, an app that’s designed to get kids to appreciate the outdoors.
- Science Everywhere, a sociotechnical system where children share their everyday science learning through social media.
- Several projects from the Technology & Social Change Group, including its 10year partnership focusing on the future of libraries, funded by the Gates Foundation.
