The iSchool held its inaugural iMentor event with Fremont-based, Serials Solutions on October 12. iMentor events are designed to connect iSchool students with information professionals at premium iAffiliate partners to help them develop their professional networks. The event also serves to connect the featured partner with students they might want to hire.
This iMentor event was organized by the iSchool with Serials Solutions staff members Shari Fox, Chanell Ortiz and iSchool Master of Library and Information Science (MLIS) Advisory Board Member Susan Pressley. The luncheon speaker was Andy Szydlowski, content engineer at Serial Solutions and 2008 MLIS graduate. Twenty other Serials Solutions staff attended representing different areas of the company, from metadata librarians to account managers.
iSchool students were given the opportunity to talk with Serials Solutions staff about their jobs and about how best to pursue careers in the information field. At the end of the event iSchool students were given Starbucks coffee cards to take their new ‘iMentors’ out to coffee and continue their discussion.
Serial Solutions creates, implements and manages products to help libraries with their e-resource data, access, management, and assessment needs.
