If you are attending the Tapia Conference in Washington, D.C. Please join the iSchool at Booth 809!
The CMD-IT/ACM Richard Tapia Celebration of Diversity in Computing Conference is the premier venue to acknowledge, promote and celebrate diversity in computing while networking with peers. For more than 20 years, CMD-IT has produced The Tapia Conference in hopes of contributing to a more diverse and inclusive computing community. This year, we are partnering with the Association of Computing Machinery (ACM) to bring the event to Washington, D.C. from September 7-10. The conference is geared towards those in academia and industry, specifically within CMD-IT’s target audiences of underrepresented communities – African Americans/Blacks, Hispanics/Latinx, Native Americans/Indigenous People and People with Disabilities.
The goal of the Tapia Conference is to bring together undergraduate and graduate students, faculty, researchers, and professionals in computing from all backgrounds and ethnicities to:
- Celebrate the diversity that exists in computing
- Connect with others with common backgrounds, ethnicities, disabilities, and gender so as to create communities that extend beyond the conference
- Obtain advice from and make contacts with computing leaders in academia and industry
- Be inspired by great presentations and conversations with leaders with common backgrounds
The conference is named after Dr. Richard A. Tapia, a mathematician and professor in the Department of Computational and Applied Mathematics at Rice University in Houston, Texas. He is internationally known for his research in the computational and mathematical sciences and is a national leader in education and outreach. Each year undergraduate and graduate students, faculty, researchers, and professionals in computing from all backgrounds and ethnicities attend Tapia to engage with intellectually stimulating talks from more than 60 national leaders in computing, as well as take part in enrichment opportunities like professional development workshops, career fairs, interviews, and networking.
