Katie Davis had two papers accepted and appeared on an education podcast:
- “Using digital badges to promote student agency and identity in science learning” will appear in Proceedings of the Connected Learning Summit (CLS ’18) along with Caroline Pitt, Adam Bell, and Ada Kim.
- “Technology use in rural and urban public libraries: Implications for connected learning in youth programming” will appear in Proceedings of the Connected Learning Summit (CLS ’18) with Mega Subramaniam, Kelly Hoffman, and Emily Romeijn-Stout.
- Marc Lesser interviewed Katie on the episode “If Grades Were Hyperlinks” on the No Such Thing podcast. She spoke about her ongoing National Science Foundation CAREER-funded work on digital badges at the Pacific Science Center. Barry Fishman from the University of Michigan was also interviewed for the podcast.
Jevin West will give the keynote at the PharmaSUG conference on Sunday (April 27). This is a national conference of programmers, statisticians, researchers and data managers from Pharma and Biotech. The title of his talk will be "Spotting statistical traps and trickery."
Hans Jochen Scholl organized the Pacific Northwest Disaster Management Speakers Series, now available on YouTube, which took place earlier this year. Seven leaders from various levels of government and renowned disaster management experts gave individual 45- to 75-minute talks at the iSchool. The speaker series was open to the public and was part of the INFX 598 research seminar.
