Biography

Mike teaches six courses at the iSchool. He teaches in both iSchool masters degree programs, the Master of Science in Information Management and the Master of Library and Information Science programs, as well as in the undergraduate Informatics program. These courses cover topics that include information management, information architecture, knowledge management, taxonomy/ontology development, and metadata design. Specifically, in the MSIM program, he teaches: IMT 500 Foundations of Information Management which provides an overview of the IM field; IMT 535 Introduction to Information Architecture which focuses on theoretical and strategic ideas regarding the organization and presentment of information to a user; IMT 530 Organization of Information Resources which covers the theory, planning and development of taxonomies and ontologies for website and other information systems. In the MLIS program, Mike teaches: LIS 584 Knowledge Management, an online course design ed to give students an intellectual context for understanding organizational, managerial, and technical issues surrounding the practice of knowledge management; and IMT/LIS 539 Metadata Design, an online course teaching the practice of developing and using metadata to enhance information management and retrieval. He also teaches INFO 330, the undergraduate course focusing on information architecture and UX.
