17 iSchool MLIS students awarded UW Libraries scholarships

Seventeen Information School students are among the 50 recipients of this year’s UW Libraries Student Employee Scholarship.

The recipients will each receive $1,000 through the scholarship, which is funded from a variety of sources including individual donors, the Friends of the UW Libraries, and 14 named scholarship endowments.

All the iSchool recipients come from the Master of Library and Information Science program: Shaye Anis, Pavel Lvovich Batalov, Natalie Brown, Connie Cheng, Melissa Fallon, Nestor Amador Guerrero, Izak Hosmer-Dillard, Catherine Jensen, Joe Lollo, Artemis Lonan, Amber Mak, Tina Marie Nowak, Zhuo Pan, Madison Phares, Abigail Reeb, Kimberlie Sullivan and Emma Wynne.

“Congratulations to all of the MLIS student awardees!” said Michelle H. Martin, the iSchool’s Beverly Cleary Professor for Children and Youth Services and chair of the MLIS program. “We are so grateful for all those at UW Libraries who mentor our students and prepare them for careers in LIS. This is invaluable hands-on experience.”

The students will be celebrated in an online reception where the scholarship recipients will deliver short speeches, and a few recipients will read from their winning essays.
