‘Bits of Knowledge’ was the theme of the first official TED event in Germany, held at the AdmiralsPalast in Berlin on June 23, in collaboration with the TEDxBerlin team.
iSchool Assistant Professor Katie Davis was one of 15 speakers and performers who explored the “nexus between technological innovation, science, politics and the economy" at TEDSalon Berlin.
More than 1200 people attended the sold out event, including TED fellows, TEDx organizers, and sponsors. Davis spoke about “Understanding the App Generation,” from her book, co-written with Howard Gardiner entitled “The App Generation: How Today’s Youth Navigate Identity, Intimacy, and Imagination in a Digital World” published last October by Yale University Press.
Bruno Guissani, TED’s European director said, “As always, our approach is intentionally eclectic, with topics ranging from big data to new social movements, from economic inequalities to photography, from the astonishing behaviour of single celled organisms to what we really know—or, often, don‘t—about the world.”
TED is a nonprofit devoted to spreading ideas, usually in the form of short, powerful talks. TED began in 1984 as a conference where Technology, Entertainment and Design converged, and today covers almost all topics — from science to business to global issues — in more than 100 languages. Meanwhile, independently run TEDx events help share ideas in communities around the world. TED Salons are smaller in scale than TED conferences and give the audience the opportunity to engage more intimately.
