iSchool student and alumni receive 2015 Awards of Excellence

The 2015 University of Washington Awards of Excellence recipients include a current MSIM student and two alumni from the Information School. The annual Awards of Excellence honor the achievements in teaching, mentoring, public service and staff support.

Distinguished Staff Award: Ross Braine, MSIM '16 and Stephen Weber, Informatics '07
The Distinguished Staff Awards program was established in 1997 to honor outstanding University of Washington staff. Five individuals or teams are selected to be the award recipients based on their extraordinary accomplishments and contributions to their departments and the University. Ross Braine, tribal liaison, Office of Minority Affairs & Diversity and director of wǝɫǝbʔaltxʷ – Intellectual House. Braine expects to graduate in 2016 with his Master of Science in Information Management degree. Stephen Weber, Informatics '07, is access services supervisor for Odegaard Undergraduate Library. 

Distinguished Librarian Award: Steven Shadle, MLIS '90
Established in 2008 by the Dean of University Libraries in cooperation with the Association of Librarians of the University of Washington, the Distinguished Librarian Award is presented annually to a librarian whose contributions advance the mission of the UW Libraries and the University. The award recognizes excellence in librarianship, especially as it benefits the academic community through teaching, research, learning, and innovative approaches to practice. Librarians at the UW Seattle, Bothell, and Tacoma Libraries and the M.G. Gallagher Law Library are eligible. Shadle serials access librarian for cataloging and metadata services at UW Libraries.

The winners will be honored at 3:30 p.m. June 11 at a ceremony in Meany Hall for the campus and general public.
