Quick Start Info for New Employees
What: This is an IT Quick Start Guide for incoming iSchool staff, faculty and Ph.D. students. Ideally, these tasks will be completed before the first official day of employment.
Why: Implementing these changes will ensure that you can be found in the UW Directory and the Outlook Address Book, that your name is displayed in a manner that makes it easy to find, and that we are all using the same calendaring platform to facilitate the scheduling of meetings.
Please perform all of these steps even if it appears that some are already completed.
If you need any assistance, please do not hesitate to contact the iSchool IT Help Desk.

Everyone at the UW has both a UW Microsoft Office 365 and a UW Google Workspace license. The Microsoft license is automatically activated but you need to manually activate the Google license. We recommend that everyone do this to ensure you have access to all the Google services.

Appropriate Use
The University of Washington is a state institution and as such, it is governed by State and Federal laws, policies, and guidelines. Every new hire is required to read the UW's guidelines that govern the use of university information, resources, and computing technology here: https://itconnect.uw.edu/work/appropriate-use/
* The GAL (Global Address List) and the Outlook Address Book sort names by first name. To make it easier to find colleagues, we ask that everyone not include their middle name or middle initial. This is just a display name for the sake of the UW Directory; it in no way affects any other record or directory or legal document.
