IUGA Asynchronous Informatics Application Essay Reviews
IUGA will be offering some asynchronous Informatics application essay reviews before the April 6 application deadline. Sign-ups are MANDATORY to be considered for asynchronous review. We will NOT review your essay asynchronously unless you sign up by March 20 at 11:59 p.m.
Note: We will be selecting students to be reviewed purely by order of sign-ups. The quality of your essays will not be considered in any way during this process. Sign up early to increase your likelihood of being reviewed.
Review window:
- You will be notified if your essays have been selected to be reviewed by March 22.
- Reviewers will leave comments on your essays no earlier than March 24 and no later than March 31.
Preparation:
Make sure you have your essay in a Google or Word doc online and share the link below. Essay links that are not accessible will not be considered.
- Make sure permissions are OPEN TO UW EMAILS.
- Make sure reviewers are able to COMMENT OR EDIT the document (reviewers are not editing content, just possibly writing comments they can refer to after reading).
Keep in mind:
- We will NOT review your essay twice. Workshops are high demand and it is only fair for us to go through each essay once throughout asynchronous, in-person, and zoom review sessions this cycle. If you sign up for this session and are paired with a reviewer, you will not be considered for our Zoom or in-person review sessions.
- If your essay is not selected for asynchronous review, you may visit us at our in-person review session (first come, first served on March 31, 5-7 p.m., HUB 214) or RSVP for our virtual Zoom review session (April 1, 5-7 p.m., Zoom).
- Editors will review your essays anytime within the aforementioned time frame. If you are still editing, they will review what is present at the time of review. New edits may not be considered.
- We are not writing or editing your essay. Reviewers are trained by the admissions committee to give you guidance on how to best follow the application prompts, aka general advice and not specific changes.
- Take advice with a grain of salt. Ultimately, we are not the admissions committee, and cannot give you exact answers on what is "good" or "bad." The purpose of this session is to give you a different perspective on your essay.
If you decide that you would not like your essay to be reviewed after signing up, or have any other questions, please email us at iuga@uw.edu.
